TOKYO — Yukio Edano, chief of the Constitution Research Committee of the opposition Democratic Party of Japan, proposed Sunday to deploy Self-Defense Forces troops to the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea to avoid invasion by other countries.

"The Senkaku Islands are effectively controlled by Japan. I believe the SDF should be stationed there so other countries will not be able to invade them," he told a TV news show. The Senkakus, about 400 kilometers west of Okinawa Prefecture's capital Naha, are controlled by Japan and also claimed by China and Taiwan.

I concur with Edano. The Japanese should militarize the Senkaku islands. China is a blustering menace.

The Japanese Constution needs to be altered in such a way as to permit the massive rearmament and militarization of Japan to pre WWII and WWII levels. This is the provision that should be rescinded and deemed Unconstutional:

Chapter II Renunciation of War

Article 9

(1) Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. (2) In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of aggression of the state will not be recognized.

I'll be darned if I can find the Senkakus on any map...
400 Klicks west of Naha would put them near Taipei, wouldn't it ?

They may be called the Tiao Yu Tai or Diaoyu islands on some maps.
