AFSCAME has consistently supported Democrats. That's more than I need to know.

It's always been interesting that public sector employees scream like stuck pigs whenever it's suggested they participate in Social Security.

I worked for the State of Maine for about 12 1/2 years (Pineland Center); as I recall I was "vested" in the retirement system after 5 years of service.

Although I reluctantly belonged to AFSCME, I never felt that they did much for me during the several times that I was being used rather poorly, and resented their strong affiliation with a certain political party that I had little use for.

I never felt pressured to join in on any "political" demonstrations or projects as some have alluded to, although it was my impression that those who did got "represented" a whole lot better than those of us who chose not to.

Having a somewhat inside perspective on State Government under both Democrat and Republican Administrations (Just when we thought that no Governor could possibly be worse than Joe BRENNAN, along came McKERNAN... and; "SURPRISE!!!"...), I never really expected to see any return on my State retirement "contributions" and still don't.

Money entrusted to this government and it's typically corrupt beauraucrats is about as good as gone, for all intents and purposes, IMHO.

OX,

Yes I am listening.

I just wish he would post the information on the 6 million exempt.

Rather than just talk about it he needs to post it so it can be linked, copied, and disseminated to the alternative media for starters, this is huge story, the hypocrisy by the left on this is astounding.

Brennan was Govenor of Maine when we first moved here.  Back in 83?  I wasn't into politics at that time, but I think Brennan was in office at that time.  Correct me if I am wrong. :)

Is there anyway to find out for sure?  Where did the money go?  Oh Gawd, don't tell me.  To a pet program somewhere?

What is AFSCME? I gather that it is a union organization but the name and who it represents is known.

They can opt out of Social Security?

You would be amazed at the number of Federal, State and City employees who can opt out of Social Security and into privately funded retirement systems. The vast majority of these privately funded systems are fully funded both in retirement and medical.

The democratic ( liberal ) insistence that private funds are risky does not hold water.

Thanks for the ping. Seems like this information could be used against those who argue that privatization is a 'risky scheme.' Looks like it's working just fine for those AFSCME workers....working better if indeed the plans are actuarially sound.

Re your #7:

"Is there anyway to find out for sure?"

I doubt it. This mob is pretty adept at covering their tracks.

"Where did the money go?"

They have a real gift for making lots of money disapear - like what; $23 Million from the Social Welfare Dept. without a trace?

"Accounting error", they said. Suuuure; come up $250 short on your income taxes and see if they accept that excuse!

Then after it vanishes, they come right back demanding more.

I would not be surprised if a good bit of it goes through Las Vegas or some drug cartel someplace some time or another via a Florida money laundering racket, but we'll probably never know for sure.

"Oh Gawd, don't tell me. To a pet program somewhere?"

Yup; mainly in one way or another in BUYING themselves a Constituency with OUR MONEY.

Like importing thousands of Somali "refugees" and hooking them right on to the welfare tit, and no doubt registering them to vote at the same time.

All the while driving working / middle class Mainers (who are apt to vote common sense instead of welfare state Commiocrats) into economic exile in other states.

Sort of like a "Constituency Exchange", you see.

After a while, they will be assured of perpetual incumbancy and majority as they tyranize, plunder and pillage Maine into "Cuba North".

Aren't they clever?
