There's nothing "Catholic", much less "orthodox Catholic", about rolling in aisles and grunting like pigs. That explains your focus on "fe-e-e-e-elings" rather than sin and truth.
The differences we had with the group were more of a personal nature, and led to our departure from it. They had nothing to do with their orthodoxy.
ROTFL! My liberal Catholic friends would get a real howl out of that statement. They're constantly amazed at how conservative I am, and how I DON'T operate on feelings. But I do know that to affect people you shouldn't be argumentative and ugly with them; you present your points in a clear, precise and charitable manner.
I did exactly that in the Confirmation Class I taught on sexuality. I gave the kids the straight scoop on the Church's teaching without apology, and with a homosexual man in the room who happened to be visiting from AIDS Project Worcester. I wasn't uncomfortable telling the kids that the Church taught that all sexual activity outside of marriage was sinful, but especially homosexuality because it could never be open to the possiblity of cooperation with God in the creation of life. I also told them that the Church teaches that homosexuals are also children of God and are deserving of our respect, but that it is incumbent upon the Church to point out the dangers of their lifestyle both physically and spiritually. I didn't make my comments directly to the young man, but I pointed out that when we separate ourselves from God's Grace through our actions, we can drift in a sea of error and sin, and will only find peace when we start living as He would have us live. I believe he did get something out of it though, because he'd already stated that he was confused and unhappy.
So I have no problem passing on the teachings of the Church, unvarnished, but I believe you need to do it in charity.
