Who wants a strong China?
The Washington Times ^ | 5-4-05 | William R. Hawkins

On April 14, an unusual joint hearing was held by the House International Relations and Armed Services committees. At issue were the national security and foreign policy implications of possible European Union arms exports to China. The clear concern of the assembled members of Congress was the enhanced threat from China to U.S. and allied forces if it gained advanced European weapons technology. Yet, two officials from the Bush administration made very odd remarks in favor of a "strong" China. Peter W. Rodman, assistant defense secretary for international security affairs, said: "The United States seeks a strong, prosperous and transforming China, and we support strong economic and political ties between the EU and China."

"Who wants a strong China"?

Bill & Hill, guilt-ridden American & European liberals, the Bush-hating Old Media, Hollywood, etc.

Strong China? Isn't it too late to complain now? China still is America's 'Most Favored Nation' now, isn't it?

Coupled with the technology transfers that happened during the Klingtoon era, we have a very dangerous enemy, growing in strength by the hour. Unfortunately, not much can be done about it. Any hope can only come from within China, like a mass democracy movement. But I won't hold my breath till that happens.

"Who wants a Strong China?"

Chinese, including many Chinese-Americans (as opposed to Americans who happen to have Chinese ancestry) living right here in the good ole USA. Oh, and there's the French too.

"As for 'transforming,' it seems Beijing is moving from a moribund Marxism to an energetic fascism. Is it really so difficult to connect the dots?"

Sounds about right in my opinion. Personally, I connected those dots in the early 90's.

With the surge in "patriotism" there I do not hold much hope. 16 years ago they died for freedom, now they protest (violently) against us and Japan.

Here's a good editorial from yesterday's WSJ that's says there is a lot more going on there than just the orchestrated demonstrations against Japan.

With a state controlled media it is difficult, at best, to be certain that the struggle for more freedom isn't ongoing.

Democrats with Newt Ginrich's help gave MFS to China. You can't give all the blame to the Demonrats, Republicans have jumped on the Communism is good for business bus. Bush got treated like a Bitch when they take out our spy plane. China has grown multiple more times under Bush than with Clinton. Come on, both parties love the Chinese trade relationship. Is any member of our Congress speaking out against the treatment of christians in China or other human rights problems? Or even the copyright issues? Under Clinton, China went from not being able to launch a bottle rocket to launching spy sats. With Bush, China is expanding to South America and using N. Korea to test our resolve.

but of course the hollywood, US media and academic elites everywhere want China to succeed!

since the fall of the CCCP, who else has been around to lead the world into the inevitable socialist utopia where the proles work according to their abilities and the wise elites smile down upon them (while only reluctantly recieving those 'extras' like chauffered limosines and special goods which are so necessary for them to decide what must be done. to each of the elites according to their 'special' needs)

a powerful China will provide the military might necessary lead the glorious revolution of the proletariat...

Who wants a strong China?

All those idiotic leftists infesting America and Europe and the rest of the world who can't begin to fathom how bad a China calling the shots would be because they just hate America.

Let's see: slave labor, a complete and utter disregard for individual freedom, a breathtaking disregard of conservation, a brutal death penalty coupled with a dictatorial rule of law, a billion + people running out of water and looking to the North for more (You hear that Russia?), a brutal and repressive one child policy, forced abortions, an illiterate peasantry, working conditions in mines and factories that the West abandoned a century ago, workers gunned down by the military for protesting, summary execution for anyone thought to protest State policies or who appear to undermine the State (hear that Moslems?), absolute control and censorship of the internet and information, censorship of religions and establishment of State churches (hear that you church state separatists?) ad infinitum....

Be careful what you wish for. Cultural revolutions Chinese style could be ugly in Hollywood and Bollywood and in all the Ivory Towers around the world.

BTW, why in netherhell are Americans buying all the Chinese made products anyway?

ENOUGH. Do without that new patio set or shoes made in China. Boycott the products.

I'm Catholic and the idea that the Chinese arrest imprison and kill our priests who must worship underground, and our Cardinal is named in secret because the Chinese would kill him if they knew who he was is enough to make me look at every single label and not buy Chinese products.
