Pope's old car smashes eBay records 10:00 PM May 5
Bidding for Pope Benedict XVI's old Volkswagen, on offer on eBay Germany, has topped 100,000 euros (at 9:10pm AEST).
That is 10 times the price the current owner paid for it.
The page on the Internet auction website has so far registered 6.3 million hits, far more than any other item ever advertised.
The bidding for the metallic grey 1999 Golf IV in mint condition started at 9,999 euros.
That is the price Benjamin Halbe, 21, bought it for in January from a used car dealer. He had no idea that its previous owner, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, would become Pope.
The Pope's private secretary bought it for him in 1999 in southern Germany.
It was then taken to him in Rome and registered in his name, though apparently he never actually drove it himself.
According to Church sources he has no licence.
Bidding closes early Friday morning AEST.

WHAT A LUCKY STIFF!!! Lord, why not send me a piece of luck like that!! I am tempted to envy.
Isn't the euro about 1.5 dollars to one euro?
150,000 bucks for a VW Golf you paid 10 grand for is a pretty good turn around.
You might even call it blessed.
This should open up a few relgious "golf" jokes....
Moses, the Pope, and the Dalai Lama were playing golf.....
I guess I'm going to hell now...
I'm upping the bid to 100,000 pesos.
Impulse buying...he'd better sell it while it's hot.
I'll never win the lottery because I never buy a ticket. (But I'd never win it if I did.)
back seat jokes on a pope thread...
(shame on you) :>)
With all due respect Padre, you're ticket's punched.
you're=your
And my elevator skips a few floors, too. :>)
And... who shive's a git? Most of us here are over the age of twelve. Actually 50+. Many are retired ex-military. I'll leave it at that.
All the answers are in the stars...
The Pope owned a Bug?
A praying man thus.
But, I've always thought of the Holy Father...
as an Impala sort of guy.
Maybe I'm being Amerocentric.
