Telling people in the congregation to take a hike because he objects to their politics indicates to me that the minister is a nut, if that is what indeed has happened. There are a number of kooks attracted to the ministry--some become quite successful.

Baptist congreations generally elect their pastors, BTW, through member votes. Maybe there's a different kind of politicking going on in this story.
