Rod, STOP taking the side of illegals. That's truly unAmerican and ANTI-LEGAL immigration.

Univ of Chicago "the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 includes provisions that deny all legal immigrants access to major safety nets like SSI and food stamps. .....

The welfare bill denies federally funded food stamps and SSI (cash assistance to the elderly and disabled) for current and future legal immigrants until they become U.S. citizens. Those currently receiving these benefits will be cut off within two years.

States are now given the option of denying legal immigrants access to other major programs and public benefits (including programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, non-emergency Medicaid, and services funded by the Title XX social services block grant) by enacting a law that will determine the eligibility of all legal immigrants in their state until they become U.S. citizens.

AII future legal immigrants after the enactment of the bill are barred from federal and state funded programs for their first five years in the U.S., and this includes services like prenatal care for pregnant women. The only legal immigrants who will be eligible for federal, state and local benefits are refugees and asylees; certain permanent resident aliens who were admitted under the Immigration and Naturalization Act and have worked 40 qualifying quarters (10 years) and did not receive any Federal means-tested public benefit during any such period; and veterans and active duty servicemen and their spouses and unmarried, dependent children.

"Rod, STOP taking the side of illegals. "

I'm not taking the side of illegals. I have no affinity for illegals.

I'm just countering the anti-Republican, anti-Bush propaganda of third party wackos and RINOs like Tancredo who are using the immigration issue to create hysteria and fear.

Look at how many of the immigration threads include posts calling President Bush a traitor.

I agree with you on the Bush bashing, but he really needs to reevaluate his border and immigration policies. He's WRONG to permit our porous borders.

HAPPY to hear you're anti-illegals too.

The powers that be want Mexico and points south integrated into the US, Canada, as well. They thought NAFTA would lift all boats, however that didn't pan out. So One Happy Hemisphere with free trade and free travel everywhere is the scheme, and they don't plan to reveal this until we're so overrun with illegals that we can't move. The latest euphemism for illegal aliens is ....Trusted Travelers! Are we happy about this? NO!!!

I saw this in the CAFTA summary sometime back. Eyeopening to say the least.

It is not a criminal offense to "be" in the U.S. without proper immigration status

Gee, isn't that special.

It's like 9/11/01 never happened.

No wonder millions enter America illegally without fear.

No, it is not a violation of a criminal statute to enter the U.S. without proper authorization, it is a civil violation. It is not a criminal offense to "be" in the U.S. without proper immigration status.

You can categorize it any way you so desire, but it doesn't change the fact that it is in violation of our immigration laws for a foreigner to enter the U.S. without proper authorization, and it doesn't change the fact that it is in violation of our immigration laws for a foreigner to "be" in the U.S. without proper immigration status.

And furthermore, up to half of the illegals entered legally as tourists, students, businessmen, etc...

So what? If they're still here the day after their visas expire, they're in violation of our immigration laws.

That must mean that illegals are not eligible for it. So there's no problem.

Illegal aliens aren't eligible to be in the United States. So I guess that means we don't have a problem with illegal immigration, right?

"You can categorize it any way you so desire"

Words have meanings. When you use a word in an incorrect meaning you are lying.

For example when you say we have "open" borders when you really mean you don't think we have enough border guards you are lying.
When you say that entering the U.S. is a "crime" when you know that it is just a civil error it is lying.
When you say that a migration wave is an "invasion" you are lying.

People usually have a reason for lying. They usually are trying to hide something.

...like referring to people who oppose illegal immigration as being anti-immigrant or anti-Hispanic, right? Funny, you never use expressions like "anti-Arab" or "anti-Brazilian" or "anti-Latvian"...but then again, words have meanings, it seems...

This WILL be THE ISSUE for 2006.

RINOs beware.

And we will furthermore make it THE ISSUE for 2008. The pressure is building all across the land, and particularly within the Conservative movement. One can see it here, a massive amount of energy just starting, right here on Free Republic.

Push has really come to shove over this issue.

I think ten years ago, pulling the 'racist' card on solid anti-illegal alien candidates, could scare off a certain percentage of the electorate, especially moderate conservate GOP types.

That dog don't hunt no more.

My impression is that when the LIBERAL MEDIA invariably starts in again on that in 2006 with that race card and guilt trip and ad hominem against GOOD candidates on this issue, (and again in the 2008 primaries), they are going to be absolutely SHOCKED at the number of backlashing Republicans and Independents, and even many Democrats, who this time will say:

"You know what, I just don't GIVE a sh*t anymore about it. It's out of control. My vote still goes this way."

True. Being called names might have meant something in grammar school, but I think most of us see through all that by now.

My impression is that when the LIBERAL MEDIA invariably starts in again on that in 2006 with that race card and guilt trip and ad hominem against GOOD candidates on this issue, (and again in the 2008 primaries), they are going to be absolutely SHOCKED at the number of backlashing Republicans and Independents, and even many Democrats, who this time will say: "You know what, I just don't GIVE a sh*t anymore about it. What may come as a surprise to them is how many Americans of Hispanic descent will be included in that, especially the ones living in less affluent areas - they're the ones who suffer the most from their wages being depressed and from gangs terrorizing their neighborhoods. This stuff affects everyone, regardless of their political leanings, and things are quickly coming to a head. "Strap in, it's going to be a bumpy ride!"
