"One case study in the research involved a man who took escalating doses of Vicodin for eight to nine years for migraine headaches, until eventually he was downing 35 tablets a day. The other patient in the study, also a migraine sufferer, took 60 pills a day. Both ended up with hearing loss in both ears." ~ velyrorenry

Limbaugh's Medical Records Opened to Prosecutors - By JILL BARTON, AP

"....Roy Black, Limbaugh's lawyer, did not immediately return a call Tuesday. He said during a Monday court hearing that his client suffered from a degenerative disc disease with ''pain so great at one point doctors thought he had bone cancer,'' and that Limbaugh chose to take addictive painkillers rather than have surgery.

Surgery would have meant doctors would have gone through Limbaugh's throat to operate on his spine, which could threaten his career as a commentator, Black said during a Monday hearing." [snip]

Electrode is failing. Causing some slight nerve "twitching".

Rush's hearing loss is his own fault - it's a common side effect of prolonged use of high-dose opiates like Oxycontin and Percoset. ... they are 100% his own damn fault.

Gee... where did you acquire your medical degree?

Maybe all of those people who have experienced similar problems to Rush's but never even heard of "Oxycontin" should call you for evaluations. Perhaps you could even do your diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan online saving thousands of dollars spent with other "specialists."

...I have never touched the stuff you cite yet (as a white male and a couple of years older than Rush) my own hearing is failing, due to Meniere's disease, and I may be faced with a similar surgery..the actual cause is unknown to modern medicine.

Thank you "doctor" for this revelation! Lemme tell you something.......my mother was hooked on Hydrocodone (she's 78) and my father in law is hooked on Vicodin, (he's 81). DON'T spout off so quick unless you've walked in other peoples' shoes.

This stuff is highly addictive and don't think it can never happen to you. I don't blame the users for getting hooked, but I highly respect those who kick the habit.

According to my doctor that is wrong. I was on long term pain killers and when the report came out about possible hearing loss associated with painkillers my Doctor's take was it was the high doses of Tylenol and not the opiate. Do junkies go deaf?

I did, however see the reports that said his hearing loss was unrelated to his opiate addiction.

Me too. Which is why I find it odd that other posters seem to have different information which has never been confirmed yet they are proclaiming it as fact.....

"Do a little research and you will find that prolonged abuse of Oxycontin, Vicodin, and Percoset can cause sudden hearing loss,....

That is true Labyrinthos, but his physisians have said it was caused by auto-immune disease.

They said this after Rush admitted to his addiction, so it is not as though they were trying to cover up for his addiction.

I have had to use the same prescription pain medication for over two years due to chronic and severe back pain, and renal cell carcinoma. My hearing is fine. I have had no hearing loss of any kind.

You are correct, pure speculation.

RUSH LIMBAUGH’S HEARING LOSS A RESULT OF AUTO-IMMUNE INNER EAR DISEASE

Physicians consulting Rush Limbaugh are now confident the Radio King will be able to retain some of his hearing, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Limbaugh's hearing loss is result of auto-immune inner ear disease.

MORE

A press conference has been called for tomorrow morning [Thursday] at 8 am PT in Los Angeles featuring physicians treating Limbaugh.

Limbaugh’s rapid-onset hearing loss is being treated by ear specialists Antonio De La Cruz, M.D., and Jennifer Derebery, M.D. at the House Ear Clinic and Institute in Los Angeles.

Derebery and De La Cruz are currently treating Limbaugh with medication, and there is some potential for surgical treatment as well. They are confident that with the proper treatment, Limbaugh will be able to retain some of his hearing.

The duo are working together with Michael Weisman, M.D., Director, Division of Rheumatology at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles and Professor of Medicine at UCLA.

Symptoms of auto-immune inner ear disease (AIED) may include fluctuating hearing, dizziness, ear fullness, rapidly progressive Meniere’s disease or a sudden loss of hearing. AIED is rare, causing less than one percent of all cases of hearing loss or dizziness. Doctors believe it is caused by the body’s immune system attacking the inner ear and damaging the hearing nerve.

PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS chief Kraig Kitchin will join Limbaugh's doctors during the press confererence to reveal new technology being used for Limbaugh's radio program.

Keep it up, you're doing a great job. To some people around here it doesn't matter what facts you have, it's just so much more fun to bash Rush. Who knows why. There are some people that are just so miserable with their own lives that they want everybody else to be as miserable as they are.
