SEIZE 1,000 FAKE LAW ENFORCEMENT BADGES FROM BRONX MAN (Man is probably Iranian!)
NY DAILY NEWS ^
Posted on 05/10/2005 10:49:32 AM PDT by areafiftyone
A Bronx man has been charged with possessing an illegal cache of about 1,000 counterfeit law enforcement badges, authorities said Tuesday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Sergio Khorosh on Monday at his home after he accepted delivery of about 100 fake U.S. Marshals Service shields. The delivery was being monitored by the agents, who had first intercepted the badges last month in a shipment from Taiwan to San Francisco.
During a search of Khoroshs home, agents discovered about 1,000 more badges, some resembling those of the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and New York Police Department, court papers said. Also found were six firearms, including semiautomatic pistols.
Authorities were investigating whether Khorosh was supplying police impersonators.
We think this goes way beyond collectors, said Martin D. Ficke, special agent in charge for ICEs New York office.
Khorosh faces charges of illegal transport of counterfeit badges and weapons possession. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
A call to Khoroshs attorney was not immediately returned.

My lack of respect for the ICE has reached a new high. So, we're talking about collectors who specialize in false credentials?

Can they find out the type of people he was sending them to and possibly try him under Domestic Terrorism Laws?
Just think of the places you could access with these badges.

In my experience as a pro historian and archivist, most collectors desire GENUINE artifacts as a rule. I know not one collector who specializes in forgeries (that they know of, heh).

The name "Sergio" is most certainly not Iranian, and "Khorosh" is a transliteration of a Slavic root, meaning "good". I would be looking at Russian/Ukrainian mafiosis.

Actually, there is a pretty good market for known fakes for some things.
Such as fake paintings by particularly talented forgers who got away with it for a long time.

HE ALSO HAD FEDERAL AIR MARSHALL BADGES!
NEW YORK (CBS) Federal agents have confiscated weapons and fake badges in a Bronx bust that has repercussions for national security.
A Bronx man has been arrested on federal charges for sending through the mail more than a thousand fake law enforcement badges and now the department of homeland security wants the public's help in finding out what he planned to do with them. More than 1300 counterfeit badges from more than 35 agencies including fake air marshal badges of particular concern after 9-11 were confiscated.
Agents from the Department of Homeland Securitys U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, otherwise known as ICE, made the seizure at the apartment of Sergio Khorosh, who on a website is identified as the owner of Pro Police products in the Bronx. He is being charged with three counts including unlawful transportation of counterfeit police badges and illegal weapons possession.
What youve got here are very good counterfeit badges from various law enforcement agencies. Someone who might misuse these items could be a national security issue for us, says Martin Ficke, DHS, a special agent.
Also seized were three high caliber assault weapons, some smaller firearms, gun scopes, police scanners, radios, police jackets and vests and $16,000 dollars in cash and what police believe is cocaine and marijuana.

From six firearms, including semiautomatic pistols, to three "high caliber assault weapons, some smaller firearms", etc. Sounds like a room full of Barretts to me!

Just think of the places you could access with these badges.
I can get any badge I want on the corner of 4th and main. Along with all the usual police uniforms and "tactical" equipment. Just cost $. The problem isnt access to these kinds of things. The problem is foreigners who hate us that are living here. Hell some of them are even here legally.

It is too bad that the tools they will use are so readily available.

Not by the name. "Sergio" might be phonetic for "Serhiy" (Ukrainian; Russian would be "SergEy', with the stressed vovel in caps, hence unlikely to be distorted in transliteration); and as for the Chechens their given names, like Shamil, Aslan, Dzokar etc. have little resemblance to traditional Indo-European names.
