House Bill 1183 is a bill currently being considered in the North Carolina House of Representatives which would allow illegal immigrants to attend public North Carolina universities at In-State Tuition rates. --- On April 11th, 2005, a cleverly disguised bill was filed in the North Carolina House of Representatives. The "Access to Higher Education and a Better Economic Future" bill is a thinly masquereded piece of legislation that allows illegal immigrants access to North Carolina Universities at In-State tuition rates. At the time, the bill with 4 sponsors and 32 co-sponsors was being lauded as a pro-economic/education bill. Our country has a responsibility to the citizens of this country, not illegal immigrants. The 16-school UNC system already turns away thousands of qualified, LEGAL students each and every year due to space restraints. Allowing additional seats in an already limited system to be handed out to non-legal students is ludicrous and a complete slap in the face of all taxpaying North Carolina citizens. Our public universities are the pride and joy of many a citizen. However, each year the costs of education go up, class sizes increase and the amount of courses offered go down. How can we justify putting this additional burden on our already overcrowded colleges? The amount of pressure resulting from thousands of outraged citizens has resulted in ten legislators removing their name from the bill. On my website, www.AlanTeitleman.com , I have posted the email addresses of all 120 NC House members, the letter that I sent to the General Assembly, and links to other sites with information and news concerning this legislation.
Make no mistake about it. If this piece of legislation passes, it opens the doors wide for a flood of pro-illegal immigration legislation to be stuck in obscure bills. The citizens of North Carolina have spoken loud and clear. Now it is time to make those who are elected to vote in our stead stand up for what we believe in.
I am heading down to Wilmington on Thursday. Can I sign a petition evern though I am not a resident yet?
If illegals can vote or get a drivers license in some states, should I being a real US citizen be able to sign petitions in other states?

I signed it. Proudly. And frankly, if someone is afraid of my stance on it, tough. If you want to put my information back on, I'm fine with it. I wish you had a private/public function with the petition site so that those of us who don't care what the illegals think of us could use.

Thank you for signing. I found that it is easier to just "clear the signatures" 2-4 times a day. Unfortunately, Petitiononline does not let one choose a public or private feature. I take the list just before clearing and save it to a text file on my computer. Once I reach 500+ signatures I'm going to make copies to put in the hands of the legislators.

I can not say specifically. I can tell you that this among a plethora of other things we are doing will seriously make the legislators rethink their positions before voting.
