JARAMI, Iraq, May 10 -- Screaming "Allahu Akbar'' to the end, the foreign fighters lay on their backs in a narrow crawl space under a house and blasted their machine guns up through the concrete floor with bullets designed to penetrate tanks. They fired at U.S. Marines, driving back wave after wave as the Americans tried to retrieve a fallen comrade.
[...]
The Marines got their fallen man, suffering one more dead and at least five wounded in the process. And according to survivors of the battle, the foreign fighters near the Syrian border proved to be everything their reputation had suggested: fierce, determined and lethal to the last.
"They came here to die," said Gunnery Sgt. Chuck Hurley...
[...]
According to Hurley and others who recounted the fighting that followed, Lima Company's Marines searched each house they passed. They turned up weapons cache after weapons cache: bombs made to be dropped from airplanes, a bicycle with a seat made of explosives and an antenna for remote-control triggering, a vest rigged with explosives, a car rigged with bombs, mortar tubes, rocket launchers with new backpacks full of rockets, artillery shells.
[...]
The Marines also found Soviet-designed PKM machine guns and belts of armor-piercing ammunition. In contrast, Lima Company was armed with M-16 assault rifles and carried nothing comparable -- nothing that could penetrate walls and floors and still pack enough force to kill.

Let us grant them their wish.
Sounds like we have to hit them with overwhelming firepower from the air. I wouldn't waste my time with ground troops, bring back napalm.
To which the Austrailians reply: "No mate! They got 'ere yesti-die!"

Yes, and may Pork be upon them!
I only read the exerpt, but I thought the terrorists were described much too heroically, as compared to our marines.
Typical MSM stupidity in this article - incorrect facts about weapons.
The only tank made by a first world country in the last forty years that the PKM is going to ventilate with an AP round is our wretched Sheridan which is no longer on active service anywhere. The only APC we have that this thing can threaten is the M113, which is why we're not using any of them in high threat areas. 7.62x51R (the PKM round) is pretty much the Soviet twin to our own 7.62 NATO, and I'm pretty sure the Marines had a few of those around. Remember, the Marines carry the M240G in 7.62 rather than the POS M249 SAW.
Correction it's 7.62 x 54R.
WaPo being a mouthpiece and motivator for the "rebels". In other news, the sky is blue.
Chase, the Marine officer, said local people were supporting the Americans' efforts. "We are getting a lot of information from the locals in the area and a very positive reception. They are giving up locations of where these people are hiding out, and each one drives another operation," he said.
While I know we all hate anything that shows the terrorists as anything but incompetent boobs I don't think this article was particularly biased. It showed that they were determined and willing to die. Well trained. The best of the best. And guess what? We killed them. That's excellent news. These are the foreign fighters. The hard core. They've been hiding out in safety in the western desert, building car bombs, training, planning attacks. And now we've confronted them there. It won't be easy and Marines will be injured and killed, as this article shows. But we are killing them in great numbers. Killing just one of these hardcore guys is worth more than killing even ten or twenty low-level guys.
I thought so, too.
God bless them Marines.
WP reporting here is about as stupid and incomprehensible drivel as anything I have ever read.
The bottom line is that our Marines prevailed, the Islamofascist Bastards died.
"Correction it's 7.62 x 54R."
True, but as he said, it is comparable to the 7.62x51 (.308) Nato round.
Considering that I'm both the original poster and the corrector... ;)
The enemy has no air support whatsoever. They are the ones outgunned by our helicopter and C-130 gunships.
"Considering that I'm both the original poster and the corrector... ;)"
mea culpa: I goofed
