Ahhh, know the area well. My old "stompin grounds." I could make it from my home in YOrk to BWI in 1 hr 15 min. flat. Barring that darn traffic that gets bottlenecked from Frederick MD on down! I used to drive limo part time when my three children were in college. I made the drive sometimes several times a day transporting passengers.
I don't know why people are carping about the "response time."
I thought the evacuation looked like it went blisteringly fast, especially when we now know several buildings were emptied.

Obviously this pilot was seconds away from being vaporized. And authorities probably prefer to keep this guy alive in order to learn what's behind his actions.
Yeah - We don't know yet what he was thinking.

My guess is that he (they? there's been a suggestion of two) was not shot down because of the debris that would have fallen. The pilot may have thought that the flares were real fire...I sure would have!
OMG.......The AA lady reporter just asked if they weren't told about it because it was to claose and "nothing could have been done about it."

The people running D.C. security are PARANOID! I'm sorry, but a small plane, even loaded with C4 is not going to do much damage. About like a VW Beetle. Now if you put a nuke on board or Marburg the equation changes. Even so, the threat is not the airplane, its whats onboard. This whole incident today seems more than silly!!! If there is a real verified threat that someone is carrying bioweapons or nukes, then you blow the little thing to pieces. Otherwise, there is absolute no need to be evacuating everybody in town.
Hopefully, the Smoketown Six didn't have anything to do with this. Their "unofficial" spokesman bit the dust earlier this week, a reported suicide.
