Brown skips renown for Schiavo case (Euthanesia org honors CNN & NYT for their coverage of the case)

Compassion & Choices - which advocates a "peaceful and humane death" for braindamaged patients, such as the late Terri Schiavo - can't give praise where it believes it is due.

The organization is trying to honor CNN "NewsNight" anchor Aaron Brown at its May 19 star- studded benefit for his coverage of the Schiavo story.

But according to actress and right-to-die activist Ally Sheedy, the '80s-era "Brat Pack" member, CNN barred Brown from showing up at the event for fear it would taint the network's objectivity.

"It doesn't make any sense to me!" the 42-year-old Sheedy told Lowdown yesterday. "We loved how CNN reported [the Schiavo issue], so these people are going to be honored anyway, even though they are prevented from being there."

But CNN said it was Brown, not his bosses, who put the kibosh on the prize.

"Aaron personally and respectfully declined," said a network spokeswoman. "He felt it was inappropriate to accept the award from an advocacy organization, however worthy."

Compassion & Choices also intended to honor New York Times reporters John Schwartz and James Estrin for their coverage, but Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis said the paper's ethics policy prevents it.

"The idea is that it is important to protect the paper's neutrality," Mathis explained.

Meanwhile, Sheedy - whose stepmother, Marilyn Webb, author of the euthanasia tract "The Good Death," is also being honored - predicted the Schiavo case will have lasting political impact.

"I hope it does come back to haunt the Republicans," she said. "What I find quite odious is that we have a President who is rushing in to champion life with a high and mighty stance on this, and he's put to death how many people in Texas?"

As for terminally ill patients who want to die, "They're going to die anyway, so why drag out the pain?"

I don't know what to say -- except that this makes it obvious to everyone how biased CNN & the NYT reporting was regarding the Terri Schindler Schiavo tragedy.

Starvation and dehydration is "peaceful and humane"? These people are lunatics!

In the first place, Terri committed no crime. She didn't murder anyone. She was an innocent person who was brain damaged and needed the care and compassion of others.

The murders on death row are there because they killed people and this sick puppy can't see the difference? The only thing she can think of is that she hopes it hurts the Republicans?

Howard Dean, DNC Chairman specifically said, that the Dems are going to make Terri Schiavo a campaign issue.

How sick is that? But just let them do it and see the result.

You are right, the Dems see no difference between convicted killers and an innocent person, actually correction: they want to put innocent people to death, but their hearts bleed for every convicted killer and terrorist.

Terri Schindler will never be forgotten. The killers will keep giving each other awards and we will continue to get the laws changed and other ideas in the works.

There is something wrong with the dem party if that's their idea of a good campaign issue. But I don't think all dem's are like that, or at least I hope not.

I think it's the more liberal dem's, moveon.org and DUmmies types who are of that sick mindset.

I hope the majority of Americans come to realize the truth about Terri's murder and see those types of liberal dem's for the sick puppies they really are.

My Mom is a raving democrat. But I love her anyway. She called me a couple times, upset over what was being done to Terri. This crosses political lines. The political aspects of the case were the only politics I was able to discuss with her in several years that didn't end in an argument. Mom's a lifelong democrat in her 70s, who promised her father on his death bed that she would always vote democrat. If the Republicans had actually done something useful, I think Mom would have changed parties.

No award for Larry King? I guess they're hoping we'll forget his interview of Michael Schiavo. Sure, he went easy on him, but Michael still put his foot in his mouth. Even Felos couldn't protect him from his own stupidity.

Until that interview, I still had some doubts. I had only heard Terri's family's version, and the media's interpretation. Maybe her family was as biased as the media hinted they were. But then Michael opened his mouth, and confirmed everything Terri's family had said. What a bottom feeder.

Who? No sarcasm. I really don't know who she is. It sounds like I don't want to.

As for terminally ill patients who want to die, "They're going to die anyway, so why drag out the pain?"

I truly had to go back and check, as I first thought this entire article was some kind of parody. Unbelievable that there are people like this.

I guess this tells us all we need to know about CNN and the NYT, too, as if we didn't know already. Just absolutely sickening.

Ally Sheedy = terrible actress, part of the "cute, brat pack" that all America was supposed to love forever, because their press people told us so.

Most notable films, in no particular order:

St. Elmo's Fire
The Breakfast Club
Short Circuit

In short, a yesterday actress, long past her "cute phase",
struggling to become relevant to society, and herself.
