"They are so used to people just rolling over at this point."

Good point. Now, if the GOP grows a spine or two, all we have to do is use simple TRUTH to defeat them. Change the end game, and they will have change with it. I would agree with the post on bloodying up what they cannot destroy; the upcoming Supreme Court battles will likely be the ugliest things in the history of the Republic .

There may a couple of reasons why Bolton's nomination is now being viewed more favorably, including this morning's endorsement by the WP.

The Dems are pulling back on Bolton because they don't want to get it wrapped up in their fight on the so-called nuclear option. They would rather lose the Bolton battle than the filibuster war.

There has been some allegations by Larry Flynt about Bolton's divorce and sex life. If any of this info can be substantiated, the Dems would rather have this sink Bolton than themselves.

Or the Dems realize that they can't win, so rather than fight a losing battle, they walk away having already delayed Bolton's appointment and sullying his reputation.

"David Brooks is just whore for the NY Times and PBS like Safire was.
Watching him debate a liberal is like watching a bobble head just nod. Brooks isnt a conservative but someone who is paid to espouse conservative views sometimes so PBS and the NY Slimes can claim they are fair and balanced. "

Brooks actually does have some very good, and conservative things to say on frequent occasions. However, he is still the house whore for the NYT, the same way George Will is the house whore for ABC. I've alwayus wondered why Will especially wasn't man enough to jump ship.

It's always as if they're saying "here is a little bit of conservative talk you can ignore, and boy is my butt sore for getting to say it. Fortunately, my paycheck makes up for it.".

You've got insight:

You should see my outsight. Seriously, thanks for your kindness.

If you think my comments were insightful that is as much a compliment to you as me. After all, you recognized it.

Precisely, though I preface agreement with a statement I'll believe we've won only after the votes have been counted in Bolton's favor.

If Brooks wants to know what happened it's simple. The base finally was pushed one step too far and exploded against our own for failing to lead. This had been building long before Bolton, but watching Judicial nominees obstructed and other GOP agendas victim to Dems and RINO's without strong opposition by the Republicans we put in office took its toll.

I am more than patient. I wouldn't stand for dissent during the campaign. It was too important to remain united. Too important to re-elect G.W.B. I even gave them a few months after the new session to adjust. But as I stated during the campaign, I wasn't going to hold my silence indefinitely. I expect Leadership, and so does everyone in the grassroots. Bolton's vote is a litmus test. The end of filibusters is a litmus test. And while I wouldn't consider S.S. a litmus test, I would state I am watching how or if they deal with it at all. If done correctly it would be a major legislative defeat (greater than ANWR) for the DEMS and rip down an FDR wall.
