FBI Sting Nets Military, Law Enforcement

FBI agents posing as cocaine traffickers in Arizona caught 16 current and former U.S. soldiers and law enforcement personnel who took payoffs to help move the drugs through checkpoints, Justice Department officials said Thursday.

Those charged include a former Immigration and Naturalization Service inspector, a former Army sergeant, a former federal prison guard, current and former members of the Arizona Air National Guard and the state corrections department, and a Nogales, Ariz., police officer, officials said.

All 16 have agreed to plead guilty to being part of a bribery and extortion conspiracy, the result of the nearly 4 1/2-year FBI sting, acting assistant attorney general John C. Richter and FBI agent Jana D. Monroe said.

The FBI set up the phony trafficking organization in December 2001, then lured military and police personnel with money to help distribute the cocaine or allow it to pass through checkpoints they were guarding, officials said.

Did anyone else notice that the title does not match the text and that the former outnumbers all others?

Probably "former" like my old service organization: The minute you are charged with a Felony, you are "former".

Believe me, if the Liberterians and Liberals had their way airline pilots would be allowed to smoke crack in the cockpit.

Yeah, believe every libertarian wants this. Honest. /idiot

But the problem is you'd be singing a different tune of the druggy got in a car and wasted four of your family members as they drove to your house.

So you are in favor of bringing back alcohol prohibition to stop drunk driving right? And we should start shooting all the people involved with alcohol. Why don't you go join the taliban, you'd fit right in.

Given that the a failure to win the drug war is more daming to our nation than the war on terror, yes, I'm for shooting drug smugglers on sight. I'm also for hanging drug dealers in the town square to make an example of them.

Obviously you disgree, you just don't want to admit that if we gave up like you advocate we do society goes to hell in a hand basket. If we fight it like I wish it were fought you know we would win.

Alcohol isn't banned and yet drunk driving is criminal.

You really should go join the Taliban.

If you haven't noticed we have failed to win the war on drugs. I think continuing to fight a failed war is more damaging to our nation.

Like the Islamists in Iran?--

"Iran has executed more than 10,000 narcotics traffickers in the last decade;"

"Iran has the highest proportion of heroin addicts in the world and a growing Aids problem."

That's right. Every public servant should be paid at least $1,000,000 per year so they won't be tempted when drug dealers try to bribe them. If dealers start raising the bribe money, we'll just double ot triple that $1,000,000. That will stop corruption.

Zero tolerance doesn't seem to be helping Malaysia much either. From the Malaysia Star:

"The National Drug Agency (ADK) has, through its efforts, registered more than 300,000 addicts in its drug fight. However, just like the iceberg, the numbers are only what is seen above the surface. Some local studies have suggested there are an estimated three to four addicts who are not registered with the ADK for every one that is."

This whole country is going to be a Mexican hell hole in 20 years.

You give it that long? You're much more optimistic than me.
