The Washington Times ^ | May 12, 2005 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 05/12/2005 10:11:52 AM PDT by 11th Commandment

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday pointedly declined to rule out running for president in 2008, and gave her most detailed explanation of a "mildly pro-choice" stance on abortion.

It was very much a "political" explanation (IOW one that is supposed to please everyone). Not saying that's a bad thing but that was my observation.

OK, she doesn't want the federal government forcing its views on abortion. That should mean pro and anti abortion too. If a society can't dictate the terms of what is right and wrong then it will crumble. Where can the government of the people get its views expressed? Roe vs Wade should be overturned and put into the jurisdiction of the states.

Looks like she's keeping the door open on running to me.

Yesterday on Larry King, Condi’s answer on gun control was encouraging for many reasons, not the least of which, is that she’s testing the political waters.

Those who found her answer as ambiguous, should consider the political lives of Colin Powell and JC watts. The Dem/ socialist Black American propaganda machine is always on the ready to marginalize Black Republicans as “Uncle Toms”, white American puppets- tuis far, a very effective effort to avoid a realignment of conservative Black Americans into the Pub Party.

Powell and Watts succumbed- but I don’t think this is be Condi’s Fate- Condi is a WARRIOR and I believe she is true to her conservative convictions.

Her remarks on King were pure political genius. It appears that, when the MSM and the DEMS try to discredit her as a white puppet- she is at the ready to defend her conservative views based on her experience as a Black American.

In the case of guns, she defends the right to bear arms on the basis that Black Americans, as well as Whites, are benefitted from adherence to the 2nd Amendment. In her case, her father owned and was prepared to use an unregistered weapon in order to protect his Constitutional rights of life and liberty against what he perceived as an unlawful intrusion of government. Such a principled position is unassailable, and will resonate with Black Americans.

Most significantly, it appears that Condi is not going to allow her conservative views to be prostituted or attacked based on race. Instead, she is going to tell Black Americans how conservative principles protect their interests. Clearly, she does not intend to fall victim to the tried and true tactic of the Dems to demonize her as an “Orea”.

In so doing, Condi can cause a significant realignment in the political world- i.e. allowing faith based conservative Blacks a legitimate rationale to abandon the Dem/socialist agenda. Freepers should be cognizant of the mine field she must cautiously traverse; the MSM/DEMS are waiting for the first opportunity to stomp on her as a the white mans’ puppet.

If she can successfully negotiate this mine field, she could foster a major realignment in the political landscape, that will only redound to the benefit of faith based common sense conservative government.

Cut her some slack -she’s an extreme danger to the Dems and Hillary- and they’re reading to pounce on her first misstatement.

This article is actually dated at the Washington Times website for MARCH 12, 2005.

I thought it seemed familiar when I began to read it.

"mildly pro-choice" stance on abortion, what the heck does that mean. Is it for women who are a little bit pregnant.

The Republican Party would be absolute fools allowing her to get her name on a Presidential ticket (even for VP).

She may be "intelligent", but she lacks certain moral fortitude.

Who and based on what is "right from wrong" decided?

I think she's a great candidate, but this abortion issue will sink her. It won't go away and she's damed if she does and damed if doesn't. If she changes her stance, they'll crucify her for that and if she doesn't change, she'll be crucified for that. Its too bad. Personally, if she said, I will support the Pro-Life agenda 100%, even though I personally entertain doubts; I'd vote for her, but I'm in a minority I think.

It means that Condi Rice is one of those good people who do not want to face -- really face -- what abortion is. So she focuses on the types of abortions that would be the toughest to defend -- a thirteen year old whose mother doesn't know she's having an abortion, late abortions -- and denounces those. As for all the other abortions, Rice essentially argues, "Let's agree those abortions should be legal, but let's all also agree that something unpleasant is going on in those abortions." Doesn't wash. It's like that slogan that abortions should be "safe, legal, and rare." Why rare? If a fetus is not a form of human life, who cares how many abortions there are? I mean, is anyone campaigning to reduce the number of nose jobs? And if the fetus is a form of human life, how is a million and a half abortions a year in the US "rare"?

Another good place to get transcripts of Dr. Rice is at www.state.gov, the official site of the State Department.

If she only backs giving discretion on this matter back to the states, that'll be a huge plus in my book...because that would amount to a reversal of Roe v. Wade.

Look at the constitution and the bill of rights and so on. It is framed by the political envionment. Maybe your next questions should be: is this correct, Should they be the guides?
