Yolo's (county) registrar takes on governor (Schwarzenegger)
She says only a judge could make her hold a $300,000 special election in November.

By Gary Delsohn -- Bee Capitol Bureau Published 2:15 am PDT Thursday, May 12, 2005

County officials around the state are griping about the costs of staging Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election, but none has gone as far as Freddie Oakley, Yolo County's registrar.

Convinced a November statewide election would waste scarce county money, she's threatening not to hold it unless ordered by a judge.

"Maybe I should just go to jail," Oakley said Wednesday. "Martha Stewart came out 30 pounds lighter and looking 10 years younger. It's not the worst thing."

A special election, she said, would cost Yolo County $300,000 at a time it is already running a budget deficit. Statewide, the estimated costs are about $70 million.

(snip)

Oakley said she she's eager to stand up to Schwarzenegger and refuse to hold the election, but she concedes she'd probably obey a judge's order - if it came to that.

"I can see myself defying this governor," she said. "I would stand nose to nose with him and tell him what a terrible idea this is. It's a waste of state money if the state pays for it, but I'll run his election if the state does pay.

"I'll defy this governor," she added, "but I don't know if I could defy a Superior Court judge."

If she does go to jail, Yolo County Supervisor Mariko Yamada, a Democrat, said she'll join her.

She says she's a registered "Decline to state" voter, but her Demonicrat County Supervisor buddy seems way too eager to join her in becoming a JAIL-BIRD!!!

I just love these Demonicrats... They're always carping about "the will of the people" in "our Democracy," yet they now wimper about special election opportunities to determine "the will of the people!" What hipocritical, inconsistent phonies!!!

There have been dozens of statewide Special Elections in the past decade. This is the first one that threatens the Democrats' and unions' SYSTEMIC leveraging of power.

So is it just a coincidence that it's also the first one that this county regristrar is fighting?

Another dedicated CA public servant.

Well, at least this would be a desirable outcome. She's on the front lines of all the racial hucksterism that goes on in Yolo County.

"Supervisor Mariko Yamada"

Mariko Yamada, Yada, Yada!!! Ha Ha Ha!!! I love your handle!!! They traded Mao's "Little Red Book," for a GovernMentalist/EnvironMentalist "Little GANG-GREEN Book!"

You'd think they'd LOVE Schwarzenegger, the way he's been fawning, catering and pandering to the Leftists of GANG-GREEN!!!

No, his "attack" on the poor nurses and teachers trumps all.

And don't forget the new TV ads for the "educational associates" -- the school bus drivers, janitors and teachers aides who make quality education possible in CA. /sarcasm>

I find it hard to believe that people can fall for such drivel -- but I guess that's been the goal of those who have sought to dumb down education over the years.

I could hardly believe it myself. Saw the first ad last night. It suggests that these jobs are on-the-line, which is not true, but it tugs at those heartstrings for the poor service worker.

You know, I could make a commercial that would be just as heartwarming that would show highly paid bureaucrats taking money away from hardworking janitors, etc. I might even through in a couple of shots of resources being wasted to teach kids in the 6th grade how to speak English while the rest of the class slows down. Where's my funding!?

People don't realize just how bad things have become. Who's the largest employer in CA? The government. Elementary schoolteachers are paid $60,000+ annually after two years. And that includes the ones who can't pass the compentency exams. It doesn't surprise me that these characters will fight tooth and nail against any reform. But it's dissappointing to see the public still snookered with the "poor teachers" rhetoric.

What is the point of having her run the election? She's just going to put in a King County count, anyway.

Might as well not let her run one. California would be better off without that county voting if it was stupid enough to elect her.
