Used to be that way in the Southwest too. Not anymore.

That just not true. I've lived and worked in the San Diego region for nearly three decades, and I'm exposed to and around people of Mexican descent every day. Those who work and pay taxes are vehemently opposed to ILLEGAL immigration as it depresses wages and overburdens the social services on which many of them depend. Those who want open borders are either politicos, have a vested interest in the ILLEGALS being here, or are ILLEGAL him or herself.

The southwest is not pro-ILLEGAL alien.

And....how many Mexican flags did you used to see in neighborhoods and along freeways in 1970?

I don't recall any. And my family owned Avocado orchards in Escondido, where I spent part of my summers. So I was around for all the fun too.

But now I see it all the time. And Escondido looks like Mexicali.
