I symphatize with the tendency to equate public school teachers with the Khmer Rouge, breeding a generation of servile, mindless robots for that infernal Moloch, that Baal, The STATE. I bet I spend more time on LewRockwell.com than you! The caricature of public schools as communist tortue-chambers makes for great fun in internet message boards.

But you know what, some of those teachers are just doing their jobs: trying to teach kids. I'm married to one. I don't think she (or any of her teacher friends that I've met) set out to subvert the integrity of the Constitution or brainwash children.

Here's what happened: a long, long time ago, they let an evil genie out of a bottle by suggesting that the ever-competent & trustworthy government should assure the education of all children. I do wonder WTF those people were thinking. But by now that assumption, which would have mortified the founding fathers almost as much as an income tax or our foriegn policies, is dyed into our culture. And that genie ain't going back.
