YOUTH COMMENTARY: Growing Up With A Gay Dad
AP ^ | 5/13/5 | Amber Smidebush

When I was about six years old, I was on vacation with my father at lake Don Pedro, a little man made lake east of Modesto. I asked him what his rainbow necklace was for. I can remember his face exactly; he was shocked, and nervous. He looked at me, and said, "Well, it just means that I have boyfriends instead of girlfriends."

I was confused, as I should be, and just kind of blew it off as something I would understand later.

When I came home my mom asked me how the trip was, and I looked at her and said, "Did you know that daddy has boyfriends?" My mom was shocked, and just sat there with a blank look on her face.

When I was a kid, I loved to ask questions, and I had to understand everything. So after a few minutes, I asked my mom how I was born if daddy didn't have girlfriends. I don't remember if she ever answered me, but I know that she later told me the story of how they met.

My mother was a manager at Jack-in-the-Box in Lafayette. On my father's first day of work, they were extremely busy. My dad was running orders and kept telling my mom that he really needed this scrambled egg breakfast. So after asking one too many times, my mom finally gave him the scrambled egg breakfast . . . SHE THREW IT AT HIM. She ran off in tears and he followed to comfort her. And that's the story.

Just a "sophisticated" form of child abuse.

"When my dad left to DANCE ON A CRUISE SHIP, I was back in California living with my mom and her husband."

You've got to be kidding.

The best thing is that my dad can do things no fathers will ever do. He can do my make-up, and even taught me to walk in heels!

Poor b*****d's a turd-burglar, too!

My father never judged me for things that I did

Is that supposed to be good parenting?

Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6

You think it is when you're young, but someday you learn otherwise. I used to envy my friends with "cool" parents who didn't care if their kids smoked pot or what they got on their report cards, but now I know better.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

God loves everyone. Only God can judge and forgive, not man.

Asking a kid what he thinks about his gay father is a joke since most of us don't figure out what life is really about until our late 30's or early 40's. Let the EU be the experiment for alternative lifestyles. I really believe that governments allow social chaos to happen just before they become totalitarian.

One thing for sure we won't have the
"where the dad" posts on this thread.

I am as confused as the kid trying to peice together throwing a scramble egg meal at a man and having sex and ending up with a fertilized egg.

Where did he sexually comfort her on top of the Clown?

Wait! You can get someone pregnant just because she throws breakfast all over a guy?

There may be some kids I don't know about after all...

When my dad left to dance on a cruise ship, I was back in California living with my mom and her husband.

WAY TO GO accepting your stepdad.

The big question isn't how they got together (although if he really didn't like women, why did he stick his penis in her?) A hug would have sufficed to comfort her.

My family supported my father, and even included John at family functions. I was always commended for transitioning so easily in my move. It took me a while, but I started to see John as a family member, and that my father was happy.

Good to see that dad treasured his own pleasures of the flesh over that wedding bond he took. Let alone the parenthood of his daughter (who he sired in a partnership with a woman).

...and I even led a Day of Silence in honor of people who have to be silent about their sexuality each day.

Great. Now horny hedonists get to make everyone suffer.
