21 Arrested in Milwaukee (WI) Gang crackdown

Police bust members of 2-6 Vice Lords on north side

Milwaukee police and federal officials announced this morning 21 arrests they said will “disrupt” havoc wreaked by the 2-6 Vice Lords, a north side gang.

“They set out to remove a dangerous gang from the streets of Milwaukee, and they were quite successful,” said FBI Special Agent James Finch, whose agency worked with Milwaukee police and other investigators from local, state and federal agencies in the sweep.

The gang, police said, ranged from N. 20th to N. 27th Streets, between W. Lisbon and W. North Avenues, and participated in drug trafficking and several shootings. Six alleged members arrested in 2004 and have since pleaded guilty in federal court, and many of the others were picked up in a sweep that ended Thursday, police said.

One of those arrested, DeRay Owens, was arrested outside Dallas while on what Deputy Police Chief Brian O’Keefe said was a trip for “gang business.”

O’Keefe declined to cite any specific incident that led authorities to focus on the gang, but said the year-long investigation began “because of their violence up in the area and their love of dealing dope.”

Mayor Tom Barrett said he hopes the arrests make that neighborhood a calmer place to live.

“Families, older people, people who really want to live a good life, they do not deserve to be victimized by gang violence,” Barrett said.

Glad to see this! My Aunt lives right on the border of where these criminals roam free. :(

I wonder if DeRay was an "illegal alien." According to many Freepers ALL of our crime and our gang problem are due to "illegal aliens." /sarcasm.

The Vice Lords have been active all over the upper Midwest for the better part of four decades. They have NOTHING, however, on El Rukns or the Blackstone Rangers (off of B'Stone in Chi-town).

I'm sure that the Gangster Disciples are celebrating the elimination of their competition.

Well, I'm a relatively new Freeper, but I'd say a lot of us are simply tired of the line that all illegals are here to "work hard" and contribute. There is a nasty gang run by illegals, the M-13, that makes these thugs look amateur. Why import trouble?

Is there any large city left in America that's okay to live in?

Depends on where your at. Where I'm from, the Latin Kings (homegrown out of Puerto Rico) would get their culos kicked by the local chapter of the bloods anytime.

As much as I am against illegal immigration, I don't see it as the cause of most of our problems. Go to any dysfunctional housing project in New York, Chicago, etc., and you will not see any illegals. Go to Rikers Jail, or Attica State Prison, and you will see illegals (MS-13 types especially), but they are WAY OUTNUMBERED by what I like to call "the children of the Great Society."

Enforce our immigration laws and deport all trash foreign AND native born! That would be an ideal situation. Turn those projects into condos now!

If your affluent and single, NYC and the northside of Chicago are great places to live. Actually, the WORST towns in the northeast and upper midwest are typically not the core cities themselves (Detroit being the exception) but in the older "inner suburbs."

Of course, in the hellhole that is the "sunbelt" there are no real cities, just suburbs with more crime.

Take a look at who dominates Joliet Prison (outside Chicago) or Attica (New York) sometime. Do you advocate deporting those folks as well?

Illegals are a problem, but our prison system is not "dominated" by them. The thugs I see walking around the worst sections of Seattle aint foreign born either. I guess its a regional thing.

I grew up on the south side of Chicago in the 60's and 70's. It was pretty good. Now it's horrible.

I would never live in NYC. I have had to work there a lot and can't take the negative energy that permeates the air. I have traveled to many cities in the U.S. There were some nice and some that were bad.

Nashville I always liked but recently it's become way too commercial. I liked Boston. But really didn't get to spend a lot of time getting to know anyone there. The Twin Cities are nice but far too liberal and they are paying for it now. Milwaukee was pretty good twenty years ago. But look at it now.

Where would one go? There is no city in Connecticut that I would live in unless I absolutely had to.

Cities have too many people and not enough control. It's actually pretty scary.

Just because we have a bunch of home grown criminals is no excuse to allow more here illegally.

Amen. Although, extremist that I am, I would, if it were in my power, deport those who are a drain on our society, while letting in anyone who wished to actually do work. Of course, my utopia would not have public schools, Medicaid, and WTC cards, but I can dream, can't I?

Not yet. But the rate of growth from about 5% in 1980 to 29% in 2004 suggests that they are commiting more crime.

Even if the higher estimates of the number of illegal aliens here are correct, 14 million, that is less than 5 percent of U.S. population. Yet, illegal aliens are 25 percent of the federal prison population. Clearly, from these numbers, criminals are hugely over-represented among the 8 million to 14 million illegals in the United States and the hundreds of thousands who breach our southern border every year.Here.
