Having an abortion almost doubles a woman's risk of giving birth dangerously early in a later pregnancy, according to research that will provoke fresh debate over the most controversial of all medical procedures.
A French study of 2,837 births - the first to investigate the link between terminations and extremely premature births - found that mothers who had previously had an abortion were 1.7 times more likely to give birth to a baby at less than 28 weeks' gestation. Many babies born this early die soon after birth, and a large number who survive suffer serious disability.

The research leader, Dr Caroline Moreau, an epidemiologist at the Hôpital de Bicêtre in Paris, said the results of the study, which appear in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, provided conclusive evidence of a link between induced abortion and subsequent pre-term births.
Last night anti-abortion campaigners seized on the evidence to demand tha....

They are talking though of "surgical" abortion, which is that one carried after the first trimester. Most abortions I think occur in the first trimester. Women who have abortions don't think about it twice. They have them as soon as they find out they are pregnant. So this is not going to affect a little bit the number of abortions (unfortunately).
This was posted yesterday and as I said then Abortiomn should be accompanied by sterilisation.
I cant wait till some girl sues the pants off some abortion facility for not giving her this information which then lead eventually to the death of her "wanted" child years later.
For what reason would any thinking person assume that abortion is completely safe? Yeah, that's been the propaganda of the abortion industry, but there is no rational reason to think so. This is a violent procedure, which dismembers the baby and literally rips it from the womb--why would one think that the womb, where this violent and destructive act is committed, would be undamaged?
For what it's worth, I read about the increased miscarriage rate back in the 70s, soon after abortion was legalized in the US. The chance of miscarriage goes up with each abortion. But the abortion industry doesn't want to warn women of the risks--it might bias them against making the "right" choice. Nope, abortion clients are supposed to shut up and be good guinea pigs. Consequences, schmonsequences.
Most abortions are surgical, regardless of when during pregnancy they are committed. I would think that the drug-induced abortions also carry a lot of risks that haven't been studied yet (the risks that have been studied are bad enough).
Re: They are talking though of "surgical" abortion, which is that one carried after the first trimester. Most abortions I think occur in the first trimester.
There are two categories of abortions: surgical and drug induced using abortifacients. Although the abortion industry prefers to refer to abortion as merely a "procedure" to make it sound less scary than actual surgery, the majority of first trimester abortions performed involve surgery.
The article does not refer to any specific period in the pregnancy; it does indicate the research made ant such distinction and it used the term "surgical termination of a pregnancy" as a generic term for an abortion; as opposed to a "method" of abortion; in fact, in the early part of the reported research results it referred simply to "induced" termination of a pregnancy.
