quote "We’ve seen over the past 30 years that limits on the size of contribution limits alone has not been adequate to deter corruption.”

great ... take away our free speech rights because some politicians are corrupt... how about throwing the corrupt politicians in jail and we keep our free speech rights!

thank you very much !

In a concurrence in an unrelated campaign finance case in 2000, Breyer wrote that the state has as a compelling interest in enacting limits on expenditures — namely, the desire to protect the right of each citizen to have an effective voice in the political process.

Campaign-finance restrictions are the surest way to limit the "effective voices" of all citizes, save incumbent politicians. I have heard that Eugene McCarthy's toppling of LBJ was largely funded in its early stages by a handful of wealthy Vietnam War opponents.

The last 20 years of "campaign finance" obsession are very unfortunate if you value free speech and competitive elections.

And don't you just love the phrase "intensity of desire"? Almost ranks up there with "penumbra". Should make the liberal justices all gooey with desire to rewrite the lving first amendment to conform to the internet age.
