Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) speaks out against plans to close the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during a rally held at the shipyard in Kittery, Maine, May 16, 2005. Last week the Pentagon recommended the closure of 33 major domestic U.S. military bases and the realignment of 29 more, threatening a hard economic blow to many communities across the country. Given her seat on the committee drafting SS legislation (and a one-vote Republican majority on that committee), she may just get what she wants, or it will be farewell to personal accounts.

I'm a native Mainer..... She's a weak-kneed apologist, and is just trying to cover her ass.

OK, Olympia, we can talk about Portsmouth. What's your vote on the judicial nominee filibuster rule change again?

Maine has become Vermont's Poor Northern Relation. Snowe has always been a crypto-liberal. Now she's getting poetic justice.

Tough sheet senator Snowe. When you start acting like a Republican and not a RINO, maybe the Administration will listen to your ideas, but until then so forgetaboutit!!
