I had it on good authority Friday, and it's official today. State Senator Anne Duplessis has withdrawn SB 319 from consideration. Apparently, she realized that it had ZERO chance of passing. This is because good people like you called or wrote in expressing your opinions!!
More details when available...
To actually see that it has been pulled, go to www.legis.state.la.us and check for SB319 in the 2005 session.

Good News for Louisiana Gun Owners!
Thanks to your phone calls and emails, Senator Ann Duplessis (D-New Orleans) withdrew Senate Bill 319 from the files of the Senate this week. This means the bill will not be brought up for consideration during the 2005 Regular Session. SB 319 imposed restrictions on the sale and possession of certain semi-automatic firearms, created onerous recordkeeping requirements on licensed dealers, and created a $50 tax on ammunition that could be used in firearms targeted by the bill.
Special thanks go out to Senator James David Cain (R-Dry Creek), who hit the radio talk show circuit over the last week in opposition to SB 319. He did a tremendous job explaining the effects this proposal would have on our Second Amendment rights and its limited impact on reducing violent crime. Please send Senator Cain an email at cainj@legis.state.la.us, thanking him for leading the fight to protect our Second Amendment rights in the Louisiana Senate.
GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE WHO CALLED TO VOICE THEIR OPINION!!!
Now let's tackle HB 726 and get rid of the proposed ammo tax.
You should post items of local interest in the appropriate state forum rather than breaking news.
Was breaking news, extremely important news. If this bill would have passed and made law, your rights would have been affected as well. There was a lot of response to this when it came out, I am informing the public again that we managed to beat the ban. I respect your opinion, however, this is breaking news big daddy.
Gun-grabbing lefty thugs are everyone's interest.
I think what most people don't quite comprehend is that when one state passes a law like this, others usually follow. It's not hard to see the domino effect here.
Do you know what I am talking about? Once we were deprived of a bunch of our liberties with the Patriot Act, a lot of other local laws starting popping up - other states take noptice to what their neighboring states do and follow suit.
I'd say that the good State Senator Anne Duplessis being forced to withdraw her attempt to infringe on the 2nd amendment rights of Louisiana citizens qualifies as more than a "local interest" story.
Agreed!
Well you are right Ray but if we stick together and hold our ground, they can come back to be defeated again and again. This Louisiana issue is really a national interest issue because all we have left are our basic rights. The two rights that hold everything together and keep us to some degree free are 1) the freedom of speech and 2) the right to keep and bear arms. Those two are the fabric that holds our freedom together. Take either one and we are done. As it is, they are picking our second ammendment rights apart a little here and a little there but mostly we are still somewhat free. I am concerned and strongly aware that there will be more 319ers coming out again. I specifically think this 319 author will be back with a re-written bill that will be amost identical to the one she pulled but worded more clever and most likely on the fast track and slipped under the radar. Let's watch and see.
So this was the first time a state had tried to limit gun rights? Puuuuhhhhhleeeezzze.
It certainly sounds like you are anti-gun, maybe just don't care. People like you that don't care are why we are fighting so hard now. I bet you are all for the Patriot act too? Look I am not flaming you but you did bite into me first and again, forced me to respond. Go play Chess and pray for you freedom.
I was trying to help out a new poster but if you don't want friendly advice then go screw your self asshole.
