International day against homophobia

HONG KONG: Some 350 people from Hong Kong's gay community gathered on Monday in the city's first parade to raise public awareness about homophobia and promote gay rights and sexual diversity.

Waving flags of rainbow colours, 16 gay and gay-friendly organisations rallied through one of the busiest streets in Hong Kong to mark the first International Day Against Homophobia.

Some people wore coloured masks during the rally, symbolising sexual minorities which live under the shadow of homophobia. One group was waving a banner saying: "Make Love, Not War", another asked "Should the Law Protect Everyone Equally?", while a third simply said, "Tolerance".

Behind the theme "Turning Your Fear into Love", the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay. Bisexual, Transgendered) community called for respect and better understanding to eliminate fears towards them as equal citizens of Hong Kong.

"Everyone has a right to choose their sexual preference. Whatever we choose...

... should be respected and be treated equally," said Choi Wing-sze, organiser of the Association for the Advancement of Feminism.

"People don't understand them (sexual minorities) and they fear them. They are sexual minorities but they are no different from us," she said.

The rally comes amid a campaign by a Christian group, the Hong Kong Alliance for Family Values, which took out a four-page advert in a newspaper opposing government efforts to enact an anti-discrimination law.

Zoe Wong, a Christian of 18 years, complained that she has been discriminated as a lesbian and banned from being baptised in her church. "It's a tough life being a lesbian here.

Everyone around you says you are doing the wrong thing. You have been discriminated against," Wong said. "I believe that God loves everyone. He loves me whatever I am," she added.

Those rallying, some in tears, ended their march by hugging each other and singing a song entitled "To Love is Our Right".

How about an international day against Christianophobia of liberals and gay activists?

NAMBLA is beaming, no doubt.

I'd like to see one of them go swishing up to a Muslim, and wave that banner in his face.

"... to eliminate fears towards them as equal citizens of Hong Kong."

Fears?

The "GBLT community" is obnoxious, annoying, insulting, a public health risk, and tries to indoctrinate kids against their parents' wishes.

When did all of that become "fear"?

Gays love these kinds of parties, It gives them a chance to meet new sex partners, and spread more aids. Thats why they have them . Its like being invited to an orgy.

It's everywhere.

I don't respect them and no government should force me to do so. Will we remain free to choose who to and who not to respect, or will the government now tell us we must respect all sexual diversities, that morality is a bigoted concept and should be banned?

BTW, all these general terms like "sexual orientation" and "sexual diversities" will likely one day land someone in court for not respecting child molesters. I mean, there are no specifics. Or less horrible but still gross, how about a guy who sits in his car and exposes himself? If that's his sexual orientation, shouldn't he have to be respected? Who is he hurting? If he just offends your moral sense then too bad for you. That's not a reason you can have any longer.

Great idea! I think I'll go down to the Houston Montrose area and hand out fudgecicles to the queers. I hear they really like fudgecicles.

It's intriguing that 30 years ago one might have said the same about a Maoist.

Hell's bells, mate...I'd settle for just an international day of normal.

Too much to ask, I suppose, with all the militant buggers and perverts, but, if one doesn't ask, one never receives, eh?

I'm not homophobic at all. I don't fear gay people, and I don't hate them, either. If I were a Christian I think I would follow the President's position--we're all sinners. I find some of the adamant nastiness expressed at gay people by some folks here off-putting.

Having said that, I find this incessant whining about "homophobia" so tiring. I'd like to see these people get on planes and march in nations where gays are treated with real hatred and fear--Cuba and the Muslim-majority countries come to mind.

Protesting with no fear of real reprisals is an empty gesture. These loudmouths are so busy patting themselves on the back for marching in America and other nations where no one gives a damn what they do as long as it's not foisted on us and our kids that they never notice what moral cowards they are.

When I first heard of NAMBLA I thought, why wasn't the Justice Department prosecuting them 25 years ago?
