"Looks like Cabela's are going to make a heck of a profit on their insurance claim"

Until they get sued by the family members of people who will invariably be killed with these guns. Maybe they will be protected from the lawsuit though.

"If someone took them, then by definition they would be a criminal. "

Just because something(s) are missing, does not yet prove a theft- could be computer problem, UPS/FEDEX, inventory, some things other than theft. But if they were really stolen, then, yes, it is by definition criminal.

I'm guessing somebody played inside job on the heist.

I would say you only have a 99.97% of being right in that guess!!!

That would be ridiculous, unless the guns were left unlocked. Thieves and murderers would be entirely to blame.

And the thieves and murders would be getting guns anyway.

This is no different from a vehicle theft, except for the federal tax agents having a cow.

As an attorney you surely recognize the higher standard of care that Cabellas would owe. Just pad locking them in an otherwise unsecured facility in my opinion wouldn't meet that standard of care. It's very different than a car as most people who would end up with these guns would intend to commit crimes with them.

Add to that the fact that an FFL has an entirely different set of rules that they have to follow for storing firearms than the average Joe does, and Cabelas is in a world of hurt for being cheap. IIRC, the FFL requirements require more than just a simple padlock on the door.

Someone screwed up bad.

I have been waiting for this Cabela's to open.

From the looks of things I'd say they opened a little earlier than expected.

This is what's wrong with our law system in this country.

.Our lawyers and courts go after the people with the money.

If they happen to be the victim as Cabela's is in this case too bad.

The only ones that should be accountable are those who stole them, if this is what happened, and those who would buy them use them to commit a crime.

I suspect that a padlock meets the standard of care.

And odds are that thieves who steal $100,000 of guns plan to SELL them, not start killing people.

Exactly. Who will they sell them to is the question.

I hope they start showing up at pawn shops soon.
This would eliminate jihadists or seriously violent criminals, small time crooks or kids would just try to get some quick cash.

Not the best PR for the new Cabelas in my home town.
I love guns, they have to be protected well and obviously were not.

On the bright side now I can just drive to the new Cabelas to get the Browning fiber optic sights I need.

Who will they sell them to is the question.

There are numerous people who would purchase firearms no questions asked. Especially brand new ones.

And don't forget about Mexican traffickers who would swap weapons for dope.

If 'Crazy Eddy's' has a gun sale next weekend we should get suspicious.
