VICTORIAN Premier Steve Bracks today sent a blunt warning to paparazzi on the trail of Kylie Minogue not to intrude on the superstar's privacy.

International media are expected to swell the ranks of local reporters as news of Minogue's breast cancer diagnosis spreads.

As the celebrity singer prepares for hospital treatment, Mr Bracks warned paparazzi not to breach the state's strict privacy laws.

"We have very strong laws, privacy laws around medical records, about access to details, about treatment," he said today.

"These are private matters between the clinician and the patient and they are enshrined in laws as private matters."

There was also legislation in place to to ensure "no one is unduly harassed", he said.

Mr Bracks said the Government would work with Minogue's support team to ensure her privacy was safeguarded.

He welcomed the "iconic celebrity" back to her home town and sent her a message of "goodwill and hope".

"We're all hopeful that with the right care and attention that she will have a full recovery," he said.

"We're pleased that Kylie is able to come home, to come home to Melbourne where her family is, where her friends are and to receive the care and attention that she would need at this time."

The revelation of the star's breast cancer highlighted the importance of early detection and the need for regular check-ups, Mr Bracks said.

Just the fact that such a warning has to be issued speaks volumes of how low the human race has sunk when it comes to respecting other people. Anybody who buys those tabloid rags is every bit as disgusting as the jerks who stalk celebrities and every move they make.
