Put an Eye Out (CBS Axes Bunch of Shows)

Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor

Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.

In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.

So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.

Fine with me...the 3 shows all sucked big time. No great loss imo.

You're nuts. Joan of Arcadia was quality. And unlike "Touched by an Angel," it wasn't simply syruppy pseudo-religious pabulum, but contained tough, spiritual lessons.

Maybe they could bring back Ben Casey.

Joan of Arcadia was a good show, one of those rare shows that (gasp!) actually mentions God.

BTW three cities I will never visit again Miami, Las Vegas and New York, to many dead bodies.

My wife if brokenhearted over the cancellation of Judging Amy. I think it is the most irritatingly PC program on TV. It's like nails across a chalkboard everytime it comes on.

Unless, of course, he transfers to San Francisco General Hospital :)

You got it. Everything on that show is a crisis or an outrage. Ugh. Watching that show is like sticking pins in your eyes.

I think the last CBS show I watched besides NFL football was The Jeffersons!

The only new show I'm both anticipating and dreading is ABC's remake of KOLCHAK:THE NIGHT STALKER on Thursday nights. Stuart Townsend plays Kolchak.

Dusting "fake but accurate" memos for fingerprints.

I'm still rooting for CSI-Idiots. The CSI team investigate Darwin Award nominees: By the burn marks you can tell that this is where the driver lit up the JATO units and left the highway...

LOL, that two of us.

At least none of the three were "reality" shows. Hopefully they are on the way out.

That "Big Daley Woman" causes me to change channels very fast. The same response when Geraldo or Greta are on. Also, there are way too many CSI's now. Adding that Caruso A$$, made me stop watching all together.

the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes

On first glance, I thought this read "news whorehouse 60 Minutes".

Sucks about Joan. It was a very wholesome show for the entire family. I'm sure it promted more inter-family spiritual debate than CSI.
