Hispanic groups plan national boycott of Arizona businesses

Illegal immigrant rights activists say the recent groundswell of anti-immigration measures in Arizona is making the lives of immigrants, and anyone who looks like one, miserable and must be countered in kind: by making the lives of Arizonans more difficult through lost business and tourism.

Activists say the recent groundswell of anti-illegal-immigration measures are making the lives of immigrants miserable.

Time to pile on. How about a national boycott of employers that hire illegals?

The funny thing is, that their first attempt at boycott last week ago was a huge failure.

In some cases, those "workers" who did not show up for work would have their "paperwork" better scrutinized, in case they were guilty of fraud.

Some employers reported 100% attendence that day.

Unless, of course, this means by "boycotting," the illegal drug dealers or coyotes here won't be "working" that weekend.

All the better for us, then.

Illegal immigrant rights activists? Illegal immigrant rights activists? You've got to be kidding! Illegal don't have rights, citizens do!

Maybe it's time Arizonans started suing these "rights groups" for the $7000.00 dollars it costs each legal citizen, each year, to pay for the enormous burden of illegals' health care, education, deportation, incarceration, welfare, police, translating services, etc.

The US is full. Time to freeze immigration, President Bush.

If illegals wanted to make life miserable for Arizonans, the best thing for them to do would be to mob the place.

What's that?

They already have?

This is just a taste of the political and economic pressure thats going to be applied once 15-30 million illegals become legal....and the left will be right there with them.

First off...families / dependents of legals now living in Mexico will also be allowed to 'migrate'...and become legal...and so on...and so on...

Please! Say it IS so.

One of the few allies that the illegals have are the businesses that exploit them for cheap labor and the businesses that depend on them as customers.

It is interesting that the illegals would choose a form of political protest that really only hurts their main ally.

Most of the rest of us are going to enjoy this protest. It will be like getting our country back.

You've got to love them attacking the very people that draw them up here.

Needless to say, I would be deeply disappointed if fewer came to Arizona to suck up our water, damage our fences, depress our wages, reintroduce third-world diseases, introduce more illegal drugs, and cause my taxes and medical insurance to skyrocket.

"At the current rate of invasion the United States will be completely over run with ILLEGAL aliens by the year 2025...only 21 years away. ILLEGAL aliens and their offspring will be the dominant population in the U.S. and will have made such inroads into the political and social systems that they will have more influence than the U.S. Constitution over how the U.S. is governed. That ugly consequence is already taking place. The United States of America is under invasion." --- James Gilchrist - The MinuteMan Project

EXACTLY - put up or shut up.

How were they treated in Mexico, better or worse?

I have no problem with Mexicans, none at all - UNLESS they are illegal Mexicans, then I a HUGE problem with them.

My husband is English and we went through all the hoops of fire, so he could legally enter the country & work, why can't [they] do this, if they truly want nothing more than a better life here in USA?

I have a question for all the illegal immigrant activistsout there;

Do you think that your protests & boycotts will make the people of Arizona (& the rest of the US):

A). like the illegals more?
B). like the illegals less?
C). change nothing?
D). piss people off just enough, to start protests of their own, demanding the government crack down on illegal immigrants?

If the illegals don't like the way they are treated - don't enter our country illegally.

If the legal aliens don't like being painted with the same brush, maybe they should see what THEY can do, to eliminate illegal immigration.

We MUST secure our borders and stop worrying who it might upset. The borders being crossed belong to USA, when you break the law, there must be action, which must include immediate deportation.

I liked the way George Bush 41, turned the boats around in the water, rather than allowing them to clog our deportation centers - WHY can't we do the same with the Mexicans? When they are caught crossing over the border, they should be fingerprinted & put on a bus the same night, a bus that drives them 100 hundred miles into Mexico & dumps them off.

Only in America, could ILLEGAL immigrants protest their treatment, by the legal citizens of America - and be given a soapbox, audience & approval.

Sometimes this country makes me so mad (liberals make me mad all the time).

I have a problem with the "Mexico first" legal Mexicans, and there are plenty of them. The spanish language media is full of these traitors, like Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas of Univision. They are dead-set on letting as many illegal Mexicans into this country as want to come. Also, I'm going to have a huge problem with legal Mexicans if Bush gets his wish on a guest worker program and "legalizes" the millions of mojados that are here at present with the stroke of a pen.

Time to pile on. How about a national boycott of employers that hire illegals?

I got an even better idea. Formally charge illegal immigrants with the crime of illegal entry, prosecute them, and sentence them to involuntary indentured servitude for the duration of their sentence. This is perfectly legal and in accordance with the Constitution (which permits that, as punishment for a crime).

Then, sell permits to people, farms and businesses allowing them to employ said convict labor from the prison system in lieue of hiring them illegally.

As part of the law that would have to be passed to control such activity, specify a truly deterrant penalty on any would-be employers who contravene the system and hire border-jumpers without the proper permit, or who still continue to employ such undocumented aliens illegally.

My idea of a truly deterrant penalty would be that such violators be sentenced to, well, join this new indentured labor pool.

That way, the illegals would be discouraged from sneaking in to the US for employment purposes, because chances are, the only job they'll wind up with is as convict labor. Still doing the "jobs Americans don't want to do", just not getting paid for it, and being locked up at night. Kinda like working on a chain gang.

At the end of the sentence, they could be given rehabilitative assistance if they should then want to apply for legal entry, provided they have exhibited good behavior during their term of servitude.

Prospective employers would be discouraged from employing illegals off the street corner because:

(a) they can hire them cheap and legal through the prison system, and
(b) if they break the law, they'll be bunking with their former illegal employees, getting intimately familiar with those "jobs Americans don't want to do".

Draconian... yes. Not sure I care though. It would work, and it would pass the Constitutional muster,

We have existing laws that apply to illegal immigration. Enforce the existing laws is what is needed. Not more laws.

"Involuntary indentured servitude for the duration of their sentence" smacks of enslavement. We don't need slavery to raise it's ugly head again in this country.

Let's secure the borders and deport the illegals.
