I AM a longtime subscriber who is dismayed at the Globe's unwillingness to call a spade a spade -- or, more to the point, call a liberal a liberal. Liberal print is fine as long as I don't have to support it.
The May 15 editorial about PBS never uses the ''L" word to describe Bill Moyers. I believe Moyers is a member of the genuinely crazy left.
This same editorial describes as conservative: columnist Cal Thomas, Kenneth Tomlinson, chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Paul Gigot, editorial page editor of The Wall Street Journal. Grover Norquist is called an antitax crusader.
The editorial goes on to label their comments as ''politicized attacks." Maybe the Globe needs a Kenneth Tomlinson, as it is apparent you will not call a liberal a liberal. As Jerry Seinfeld would say, ''There's nothing wrong with it." Just do it. You'll gain at least some editorial credibility, not to mention some concept of reality.

This made it into print at the Globe (part of a letter to editor, at least). Will wonders never cease! (Well, they do employ Jeff Jacoby, too...)
The writer of this letter makes a good point, and one that has been brought up by the likes of Bernie Goldberg and Laura Ingraham: you hear the liberal media refer to so-and-so as "conservative" but you never hear liberals referred to with that label attached to their names.
In the Globe's world, liberals are considered "we" and everyone else is "they". So they feel they need to identify non-liberals as such (and demonize them) but those in line with their leftist views, hey, no such designation is required!
Good letter, they need to be sent in to every paper around the country, over and over again.
I'm a little surprised they actually the letter, but don't hold your breath for them to actually institute the policy - ain't gonna happen ...
Yes, and when elections come around they find a reason to "suspend" his column until after the votes have been counted. He's the token Conservative. Nothing more.
Classic case of leftist bias. I'm amazed the Globe printed the letter; maybe they've been getting so many like it in the recent years they finally just gave in for once.
They can't come out and tell the truth of who they are or what they if they plan on ever, ever winning another election.
I like this description!
Why would I want to swear at someone?!
Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING
The media considers itself and democrats mainstream, but voters to be to the right of mainstream (yes, I know its perverse).
Paul Krugman doesn't even consider himself liberal, and he's a downright leftist.
Thanks for the ping.
So annoy them--call em liberal! The 2 ratings-challenged Scare America stations is Beantown call themselves "Boston's Progressive Talk". *make that regressive...*
