DETROIT (AP) — A Moroccan immigrant who once was tried on terrorism charges in a case marred by prosecutorial misconduct has been deported as part of an insurance fraud case, a federal agency said Thursday.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said Ahmed Hannan, 36, was deported late Wednesday to Morocco.

Hannan and three other immigrants were accused of being part of a "sleeper" cell and charged with conspiracy to provide material support or resources to terrorists. The charges stemmed from a raid on a Detroit apartment six days after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Karim Koubriti and Abdel-Ilah Elmardoudi were convicted in 2003 of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Hannan was acquitted of that charge but was convicted, along with Koubriti and Elmardoudi, of document fraud. The fourth man was acquitted.

Their trial was the first in the United States for an alleged terror cell detected following the attacks.

But in September, three years after the men were first arrested and jailed, the U.S. attorney's office admitted widespread prosecutorial misconduct in the case. At the government's request, a judge dismissed the terrorism charges and ordered a new trial on the document fraud charges.

In December, a new indictment charged Hannan and Koubriti with conspiracy to commit mail fraud for allegedly filing a false auto accident insurance claim. Hannan pleaded guilty in March and waived his right to deportation hearings.

Bye Bye Achmed.

Don't let the door to the greatest country you've ever lived in kick you in the butt on the way out.

Enjoy the taste of sand in every meal. Hopefully, you'll fail in your new career as a suicide bomber and just blow your own sorry butt up.

Good! What would have been great is to implant a device inside this jerk so that he could be monitored unbeknownst to him anywhere in the world.
