Prosecutor in probe of DeLay PAC raises funds for other side

Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who denies partisan motives for his investigation of a political group founded by Republican leader Tom DeLay, was the featured speaker last week at a Democratic fund-raiser where he spoke directly about the congressman.

A newly formed Democratic political action committee, Texas Values in Action Coalition, hosted the May 12 event in Dallas to raise campaign money to take control of the state Legislature from the GOP, organizers said.

Earle, an elected Democrat, helped generate $102,000 for the organization. Reasons for speaking Earle and his staff of prosecutors have obtained indictments of three DeLay associates on charges that their political committee, the DeLay-led Texans for a Republican Majority, broke state campaign finance laws with the use of corporate donations on its way to helping establish Republican control in the state House.

Earle said Wednesday he knew the group that met in Dallas was raising money for Democrats, but that it was not his reason for speaking.

"I'd make the same speech to any group, Republican or Democrat, as long as the group was interested in honest, open government," Earle said in a telephone interview.

The prosecutor said he did not recall making other fund-raising speeches for anyone besides himself since he began investigating DeLay.

"We are investigating anybody who has committed a crime," he said when asked if DeLay is a target of the probe.

Political analysts said Earle's appearance left him open to questions about his motives.

"It may help Tom DeLay establish his case that Ronnie Earle's investigation is a partisan witch hunt," said Richard Murray, a political scientist with the University of Houston.

These people will stop at nothing to tear someone down. The party of no continually obstructs in anyway possible. Apparently you are a success in the eyes of a democrat as long as you interfere.

It's disturbing to see the prosecutor speak at an engagement and directly speak about whom he is prosecuting when the case has not yet gone to court. Can we say malicious prosecution?

I wonder how much Earle has donated to charities. etc. Maybe that's why he's so po'd. Instead of out raising money for charitable orgs. He's out whoring for the DUMS.

Ronnie Earl is the same DemonRat that indicted Kay Baily Hutchison when she was running for the Senate in an attempt to derail her campaign. When it went to court the indictment was thrown out of court by a DEMOCRAT JUDGE. Ronnie Earl is a DemonCrat attack dog hack.

DeLay has not committed a crime, you little SOB earle. This is just another one of those:

It's not the evidence, it the seriousness of the charges.

"It may help Tom DeLay establish his case that Ronnie Earle's investigation is a partisan witch hunt," said Richard Murray

I hope earle gets his little DUmmieRAT bu++ investigated by the US Attorney General.

It seems to me that the attack on DeLay has lost all its momentum. Naturally this kind of dirt from Ronnie Earle won't be reported widely by the MSM, but they are no longer running the kind of high pressure "DeLay is a crook" stories they were using against him earlier.

For a while, it was the most intense attack on the Republicans since Abu Ghraib or National Guard Gate or Enron, but it has failed, and they seem to recognize it. Thank God, Bush stood firmly behind him at the very moment when things were hottest and all the gossips were saying he was about to dump him.

You can get an Austin grand jury to indict anyone. Keep in mind they sell bumper stickers in Austin that say: "Keep Austin Weird" Big difference between Fort Worth and Austin.

Heard on the radio that one of the papers is reporting that the FEC will likely clear the PAC that Delay started of any charges.

Meaning Delay can't be linked to a crime.

Meaning Earle had nothing to investigate.

meaning Earle is a fraud.

Heard about the NYT article.

That just makes Earle look crooked.

He had nothing to go after Delay for.

He was playing politics.

State law states its a crime for an elected official to misuse the authority of his/her office.

Me too. I saw him on that 60 minutes hit piece. He's a creepy slimy little scmuck. His comments here are disgusting and totally inappropriate.

He should bring up a charge or shut up.

In Texas, a grand jury needs only 9 of 12 jurors to indict and it took Ronnie 2 years and 3 grand juries before he was able to get anyone to indict the three Republican staffers, much less DeLay or anyone else. Last I heard DeLay has neither been indicted, deposed or personally linked to ANY wrongdoing.

The really criminal part is that the MSM has taken this flimsy BS and made it front page news for months when there is nothing there. Same thing for a lot of the travel stuff and ethics complaints.

This is more of a coordinated attack than even the "Rathergate" scandal.
