I don't even understand her analogy. If anything, the US would be considered the thumb. The digit that seperates us from the animals in other parts of the world.
The apology means little to me. If she didn't mean it why did she say it?

I think she was simply using her hand as an impomptu bar graph.
Her apology sounds reasoned and sincere.

"Unfortunately, I think this is how the rest of the world looks at the U.S. right now. Not as part of the hand – giving strength and purpose to the rest of the fingers – but instead, scratching our nose and sending a far different signal."

Thank You MSM! /sarcasm

my words and examples about America unintentionally depicted our country negatively and hurt people.

If the negativity was unintentional, she is a certified fool.

Over the years I’ve witnessed and advised others how a thoughtless gesture or comment can hurt good, caring people.

It would be very difficult to argue that her comments were thoughtless. As foolish as they were, they were obviously calculated.

The kind of judgement she exhibited don't have any business leading a large company like Pepsi.

The middle finger is one of the two necessary for a successful eye poke.

Your post# 2 was very good.

How many American women go to India and become CFO of multi-gazzillon dollar companies?

Is anyone else here questioning how she got her job?

Looks like this woman will soon be enjoying retirement.

Or at least fired or given a golden parachute payment to leave the company.

Because PepsiCo--like the Coca-Cola Company--is a highly image-conscious company, they know that any bad PR could cause financial distress for the company in no time flat (does anyone remember the New Coke fiasco?). Indra Nooyi's comments could end up causing Americans to shun PepsiCo products, which could seriously cut into their revenues and will cause their stock value to fall. The PepsiCo people may want to read Hugh Hewitt's latest book BLOG: Understanding the Information Reformation That's Changing Your World, which shows how the New Media--especially weblogs--can cause change at lightning-fast speeds.

What a freakin' jerk.

She may THINK anything she wants, but as an officer of the company she has an obligation to uphold certain guidelines.

Since she can't, and seems to want to act-out on these thoughts, she is a danger to the viability of the company and should be canned.

Big Jim, a fishing partner would always bring plenty moon pies and RC Cola. He knew I couldn't resit them and while I was eating a moon pie and washing it down with an RC, he would usually catch one or two fish and beat me at the end of the day.

He is always looking for and edge...

Well, Ms. Nooyi, here is an anchor finger hoisted in your general direction.

As Col. 'Bat' Guano said to Group Captain (G/C) Lionel Mandrake, "You're gonna have to answer to the Coca Cola Company."
