The take handily beats the one-day record of $44.8 million set last year by "Shrek 2." Shrek 2?
It's surprising that a sequal to a kid's film would hold that record.

The highest grossing films these days are always kids films.

It's surprising that a sequal to a kid's film would hold that record.Shrek 2 was far from being a kid's film. The nice thing about that film, as well as its predecessor, is that it is written in such a way that adults get something out of it too.

It's surprising that a sequal to a kid's film would hold that record.Actually the lower the rating (g,pg, R and so on) the higher the potential yield for a good movie. More people are inclined to take their children, and children will see the movie again and again. Then there are birthday parties at the theatre that are quite popular and so on. Heck, how many of us heard of teenage girls seeing "Titanic" 15 times or so. I was the same way with the first SW trilogy.

Shrek 2? It's surprising that a sequal to a kid's film would hold that record. They marketed the living snot out of that movie. Probably spent $50 million on the pre-release ads alone.
