Aside from the fact that they have hated us for generations, I don't recall a campaign during WWII to try and get the Germans to like us or respect us. This war should be no different.

Neither did we bend over backwards to let them come and go, and associate and assemble, freely within our borders; unlike today. And neither did we let them enter through other countries; unlike today.

Hehe, I love to play the game of "Pigeonhole the Author". I try to see how long it takes to figure out their political bent, and discounting the title, the first appearance of the word "warmonger" classifies the author most effectively. Ultra-lib, Marxist 60's wannabe.

Roberts had an "we're all doomed" article last week that all the FR trade protectionists were stroking themselves with glee over; haven't noticed any of them on this thread; go figure.

You're wrong, on two levels.

First, the Marshall Plan was precisely about getting them to like us, in the sense that rebuilding their countries and gaining their trust was a better solution to ensuring a lasting peace, than was the "tribute and humiliation" approach that characterized the post-WWI settlement.

Second, we're not at war with 1 billion Muslims, and never will be, unless stupid people on our side decide to make them all enemies, rather than turning them against the relative handful of salamikazes with whom we are at war.

This guy relies on British "super secret" memos and British law (opinion, actually) to bring a case of impeachment against an American president??!!

They wouldn't even know what impeachment was if we hadn't impeached Bubba, and justifiably so, LOL.

All impeachments belong to us.

The problem with Winston Churchill is that there was only one of him.

Britain (and the WWII alliance) needed dozens of him.

If only there could have been three of him at Yalta!

In point of fact the Marshall plan was started two years after WW II.

Say what you like. Muslims hate the US not for what we are but rather for what they are not.

This is just another hate Bush rant by a left wing liberal, loser, and insanely delusional man.

I'll venture to guess that Paul Craig Roberts has been a respected conservative commentator longer than you have been drawing breath.

This guy is a total idiot.

However, it is a good thing that the Repubs control both houses, or the Dems would be moving towards impeachment procedings against Bush now.

Why??

They're sore losers and vicious demagogues. This is exactly what they pulled on Nixon after his re-election.

The Dems can't forgive Bush for beating Gore in a close race.

The Dems can't forgive Bush for handling 9-11, Afghanistan and Iraq so well.

The Dems can't forgive Bush for beating Kerry so soundly and picking up additional seats in Congress.

And Bush is merely a "real" moderate, as opposed to phoney liberals like McCain and Whitman, whom the libs are so fond of calling "moderates".

You can imagine what they would be doing if Bush was a real conservative. They would be in the streets shooting.

Because the Democrat Party has incrementally swung so far to the left that they no longer represent majority American thinking on any subject, now or generations saw things previously.

The only thing which keeps the Democrat hate machine plugging along, spewing its venom, and hoping to sacrifice the safety of American citizens and servicement in an attempt to discredit the administration are the RINOs in Congress -like McCain - and the far leftist major media who have so recently demonstrated such a cavlier and criminal disregard for America, the truth, and any principles their "profession" may once have had.

This claptrap is written by a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution?

Doesn't say much for the Hoover Institution, does it? What are they, an organization of vacuum cleaner salesmen?

and the left is psyched and back to high-fiving each other in looneyland.

And that one major reason why they will keep losing again and again. They live in their own delusional world where the concept of victory is totally detach from reality.

Let's start over - Bush did not go to war with Iraq over WMD. He did not "lie" to anyone over the issue. He repeated intelligence assessments that were nearly universally believed and were promulgated by Clinton and his staff long before Bush ever got hold of them. These were in error. That's life.

The reason no one in Congress is pulling for an impeachment is that they authorized the military intervention themselves in a joint resolution in 2002.

This isn't very complicated, really, and I would hope a fellow of the august Hoover Institute would do a little better than this hysterical ranting.

I'm aware of when the Marshall Plan started. Our approach in Iraq and Afghanistan is analogous to it. The people of those countries are not enemies.

Say what you like. Muslims hate the US not for what we are but rather for what they are not.

We're not at war with Islam, and most of them don't hate us. However, your blithe assumption that "all Muslims" hate us (and why), and the logical consequent -- that they're all our enemies, is precisely the sort of stupidity that will put us at war with Islam, as opposed to a relatively small number of fanatics.
