Rosenthal, Marshall and others say Democrats — led by Dean — should be reaching out to groups and areas where Republicans have done well: military families, Catholics, evangelical Christians, business leaders, people who live in the "exurbs" beyond even outer suburbs, and people who live in small, "micropolitan" cities.

The trouble with that is, you have to find a bunch of tough-as-nails telemarketers who can take being yelled at all day long, and they don't come cheap.

I'll wager that we're still lacking the pure sense it requires on the national level to abstain from playing minority politics.

You go to a black church and you say you believe in being able to pray, of a man marrying a woman, not his daughter's dog. You believe in someone working hard and getting ahead, not sitting on their rump waiting for the next great social fiasco to come devastate the neighborhood.

You go to a hispanic group and you note that you begin each session of congress with a prayer, you are against teenagers getting abortions during class recess.

You basically go out and say, hey, we're like what your values are. And you'll pick them up like crazy.

From the article: "The numbers behind the Republican push are stark. Given birth rates and other population trends, says GOP strategist Bill McInturff, 'you can't be a majority party as a party of white America.'"

What do you suppose those "other population trends" are, exactly, hmmmm?
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, perhaps? Maybe even legal immigration included.
So, why do you suppose the GOP strategist say "Given birth rates and IMMIGRATION"? Hmmmmm?

Anyway, you still can be the majority party of the party of "white America" if you actually take the decisive steps that will assist the birth rate of white America (like cutting taxes, sharply, on the middle class so they can afford to have more kids and actually reach the replacement rate, for starters), or shutting off the spigot of relentless illegal immigration. Or maybe even (I know this is a shocking thought) OPENING the immigration spigot to Europe, Canada, South Africa and Australia - the developed world where people are at approximately the same education and skill level.

I know, I know: purposely rigging the immigration laws to encourage the immigration of WHITE people is RACIST. And suggesting closing the illegal immigration across the the Southern border is ALSO racist, right?

So, just to be clear, the Republican party is relentlessly and openly reaching out to nonwhites AS SUCH, identifying them AS SUCH, conducting racially-targeted recruitment and campaigning that focus specifically on bringing people of a certain RACE into the party (which is fine). But they won't use the word "immigration" in talking to the EXISTING party (which is "of white people", who apparently "cannot win", even though it was the majority of white people voting for Republicans that gave the Republicans the majority they have, while all the other shades of people voted, a large number ON THAT BASIS, for the Democrats). Instead, it's "other population trends"...population trends which could be just as easily REVERSED, in the wink of an eye, by throwing open the doors to Europe and Canada.

In other words, it's ok to build a party based on race and immigration...so long as the race is not white. Building a party based on the WHITE race is racism. Building it on any other race is good politics.

This strategy is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Dean told California Democrats he is visiting conservative states because "how are people going to respect you if you don't show up and ask for their vote?" He is counting on that message getting out beyond his Democratic audiences. As he says, referring to the limited turf fought over last year, "You have seen the last 18-state presidential campaign in America."

Gee, Howie. How do you expect people to respect you when you go into their home and trash everything and everybody they have held in high regard for years?

Coming into my home and calling me an ignorant, knuckle-dragging s**head sure ain't gonna get you my vote. Get you an old-fashioned Tennessee ass whoppin' maybe but sure as hell not my vote.

"You basically go out and say, hey, we're like what your values are. And you'll pick them up like crazy."

No, you won't.
No matter what you do, you will only pick up a handful of Blacks, and they will be the young (but not too young) upwardly mobile black middle class. Blacks are going to vote more reliably Democrat than Massachussetts, no matter WHAT you do. Why?
For exactly the same reason that Jean-Pierre Maintenon has no chance of being elected the President of the United States NO MATTER WHAT he says or does. There are simply some forms of bigotry that are bone deep, and you cannot persuade people to drop it for all the tea in China.

Consider the Jews.
Who supports Israel down the line? The Republicans.
Who is leading the divestiture charge and pushed the Oslo accords and pushed Jimmy Carter's "evenhandedness"? The Democrats.
Therefore, for whom did 70% of Jewish Americans vote in the last election?
The Democrats, of course.
No matter what you do, some people are bigoted against you on a racial basis.
You will NEVER win the Black vote, not for a generation.
Nor will you EVER win the Jewish vote, maybe forever.
Socialism is more powerful than race.

The Hispanics are a different case, but you're not going to win them over with sunny messages of how you're morally just like them.
Nope.
To win the Hispanics you have to be brutally direct: you are Catholics, you hate abortion and you hate homosexuality. The Democrats love abortion. The Democrats are pro-maricon. And you have to relentlessly beat that drum to actually get the shift.

Tell it like it is, and call the Democrats evil fag-loving baby killers, and PROVE IT with video clips, and you can get a lot of Hispanics to cast the scales off their eyes and reach further down into the socioeconomic Hispanic underclasses.

But Republicans are just too GENTEEL for this stuff.
That's the fatal flaw.
Bush and Co are playing the very cynical pro-cheap labor market game of leaving the border open (and be clear about this, you Republicans: Bush is NOT going to close the border. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war on immigration all you want: illegal immigration is VERY GOOD for industries that use a lot of cheap manpower, so good, in fact, that the Republicans have chosen to support them over you in your anti-immigration stance. Remember: down there on the border with those Minutemen, you've got the Government - and that means the Bush Administration - issuing clear orders that arrest figures are NOT to go up there. Why? Of course so that the Minutemen can be discredited and it can all be seen as a mistake.

Illegal immigration is a capitalist matter.
Unfortunately, it's also a populist issue for part of the Republican base. But see the posting above about how the Republican party just is not going to make any effort to hold onto the white vote, as such.

So, the waves of illegals will continue to enter, and the Hispanic numbers will mount. Sure, Republicans will make INROADS, but when a population is burgeoning, and you're "increasing your margin" from 40% to 45%, that means that the other side is getting 10% more than you, or ten votes of every hundred. Which means YOU LOSE.

To get better numbers than that, you've got to make it clear and nasty that the Democrats are the party of abortion, homosexuality and Satan. Be subtle and genteel, and that 10% differential will eventually drown you...since NO MATTER WHAT the business classes of the GOP are NOT going to ever let the Republicans close that southern border. That much is clear.

The difference between the two parties in a nutshell. The Democrats are fighting to hold what ground it has. The GOP on the other hand, is actively courting and reaching out to new voters. Its the quintessential difference between a party stuck in the past, full of rage and hate and which doesn't know how to fix its problems as opposed to a party venturing into the future full of optimism and exploiting all available opportunities. To be quite frank, I'm happy the liberals are where they are and that we are going where we want to go. I hope the Democrats don't wake up until its too late.

Sad part is that any voter that would swing to the far-left has no mind of their own, let alone a mind of any form. The left offers nothing to America, as a country and as a whole, so all they can appeal to is the people with their noses in the big government pig trough, offering them more slop (taxpayer dollars) that THEY DID NOT EARN.

Socialism and the libs' welfare society is killing America -- and the losers in our society DON'T CARE.

Ummmm.....but I thought Dean said he didn't want it to be about "Guns, God, and Gays"?

I agree... this pro-illegal stance of the GOP is creating a huge mass of voters who are ready to jump the moment something better than a Democrat comes along, and the Democrats haven't much juice left in 'em.

I've been pretty rough on the GOP callers lately. Someone called me to support GOP Senate candidates about 2 min. after I heard that Trent Lott was trying to find a compromise on judges. One of my better rants.

Check your facts on the Jewish vote... the GOP got nearly half this last election, and will probably get more than half in the next one.
