Bad ballots in Madison school referendum

Madison school district is holding a referendum to permanently exceed spending caps on Tuesday. But it was discovered late on Friday that the ballots were “misprinted”. They claim that they will have the ballots in the polling places corrected before the election, but there are 2200absentee ballots out there that are wrong and people may inadvertently vote the wrong way, and since those ballots have already been sent, there is no time to correct them.

This election is expected to be very close, so these 2200 ballots may very well make a difference! This is liable to end up in court unless there is a clear winner, so those opposed to free spending school boards that feel they don’t have to respect the will of the voters need to get out and vote this down BIG. We then need to enact the law moving through the legislature that will stop these stupid surprise elections where school boards continue to bring back spending referendums every few months, all at odd times, knowing that they will be very low turnout elections where they have a chance of forcing bad policy down the throats of the public.

Thanks to Jib for bringing this to my attention, he has posted this on his Jiblog and at the Badger Blog Alliance, so if you are in Madison, you really need to pay attention to this story, and Wisconsin Bloggers, you need to help get the word out too!
