I'm sure there are exception that make the rule, but the association is pretty dysfunctional. They study broken people to learn how people work (I know, there are good reasons to do so), which is like studying broken cars to learn how cars work.

Well, the two reasons you stated, plus MONEY! There is big money in forcing this on society, for them. And there is big money in keeping the homosexuals hooked into their chain of unending visits and drugs too.
