Labels matter to a point, but my beef is someone getting on here and calling Senator Frist a RINO. Ticks me off!

I believe that is a safe bet. The SC Court has more influence. Shipping Brown to the circus puts her in a controlled minority. It would associate her with those nuts, and damage possible elevation to the highest court.

Scenario #2 - Dems start a filibuster; it goes on for days and the only thing the press can show are videos of "Sheets" Byrd talking about his choice of kitty feed. Republicans hammer the Constitutional requirement for advice and consent (not super majority, filibuster never been used like this before, etc, etc.) The filibuster ends because the Dems finally see the reality of their obstructionist position and the up-down vote takes place.
Which of these is better for us in the long run?
I think it would have to be a multivolume series because there's so much material against elected officials and their treason alone!

Bunning- Last fall the American people spoke clearly. High turnout..American people choice G.W.B. as president. And American people created 55 Republican Majority by electing 7 new Republican Senators. message sent clear. Support President Bush and Republican Senators more than what other side had to offer.

You are missing an important consideration pertaining to Senate rules and procedure. If we go for a full-fledged filibuster on each nominee, only one RAT has to be present talking for hours on end, while the majority caucus has to be present at essentially all times.
But why was a motion for cloture filed on Friday and the actual cloture vote couldn't occur until Tuesday morning?
Debate can be ended either by unanomous consent, which can happen any time, or by cloture. And cloture requires 60 votes to close debate. But if I understand the rules as they are now, that doesn't mean that all the Republicans have to be present the whole time that debate is happening. The aren't all there right now. The weren't all there on any day last week. They don't have to be there until a vote is scheduled, and there's a roll call vote on a procedural motion this afternoon, and a cloture vote scheduled for tomorrow morning.
If that fails, the smart thing to do is to schedule another cloture vote in two days, and to continue to debate the nominee. But forget about changing the rules in the middle of the game. That's what the Dems want because that will be unpopular and the Dems and their media buddies can use that against the Republicans any time they want. Why give them that to beat us over the head with?
Most filibusters are eventually broken. Filibusters against popular items are usually broken quickly. The Dems can't hold this one for long. It will hurt them. The only thing giving them hope now is if they can make it hurt the Republicans worse. What's sad is the Republicans are looking for a way to hurt themselves.
Such a project would kill ALOT of trees!

A common activity on FR is arguing over the application of a label (e.g., is Frist a RINO?), and the energy spent arguing over application of a label passes for reasoned discourse about the underlying issue(s).
The same crap happens with other labels, FWIW. Like "filibuster." I agree, labels can serve good purpose. I just laugh when labels become a purpose unto themselves.
LOL, Bunning says that the crisis on the bench is that too many judges act like they are in Congress and legislate from the bench. He is being about as candid as I have ever seen a Senator be.
