What next? They'll want my S-18/100 that I use for gophers? Kidding of course!

>>Bottom line: Just about anything can be used to bring down an airplane....under the right conditions.
Watched a show Sunday about how an 18"x1-1/2" strip of metal took a Concorde out of the sky. We should ban sheetmetal.

not to mention the $7500 pricetag. def sounds like the weapon of choice for your average 18 year old (terrorist).
especially when we all know that all you REALLY need to take out a plane is a $75 laser pointer.

Not even that, slip a pack of razor blades into one of the side panels of your carry on luggage. Total cost $3.

She and other Democratic lawmakers are hoping to outlaw the rifle with a proposed state law called the Anti-Terrorism and Aviation ActWhy are they worried about a rifle, when there are 5,000 people a day entering this country illegally?

She can't bring herself to blame the lunatic, so she'll blame an inert object. 'Liberalism is a mental illness"

"There is no reason to have this [sniper rifle] in a civil society" - said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola)
There is no authorization in the Constitution, that you are sworn to serve, for you to legislate in this area, MS McCarthy.

Go to the barret home page and see what they think of the ca law.Barrett Rifles
To: holymoly
I would like to have one although it would be expensive to shoot and expensive to buy.
I can't see too much practical use for one except long range sniping, or against lightly armored vehicles. Of course that is one reason why it should be available to the public.
That is exactly the type weapon the second amendment is about.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation similar to Eddington's bill, which restricted the sale of the .50-caliber rifle. I am eagerly awaiting the introduction of a new .499 Barrett cartridge.
I hope they make it a out of a necked-down 20mm Oerlikon cannon shell, with twice the muzzle energy of the .50 BMG.

The main reason for the populace to have such weapons is as a deterrent against tyranny. The incidental fun of accurately firing them is just an additional benefit.
Of course, only the government is qualified to define what is acceptable fun.

"When they get serious (fairly soon) the term "sniper rifle" will get redefined as "any rifle with a telescopic sight or capable of accepting a telescopic sight."
Bingo! The only difference between my deer rifle and a sniper rifle is between MY ears. If I pot Bambi's mom from a deer stand, it's a deer rifle, if I pot Jennifer's mom from the roof of the 7-11, it's a sniper rifle.

Ah, busted shoulder anyone, I don't think you could put enough springs behind that sucker to prevent it.
Yup there definitely could be some unintended consequences of these laws.

There you go again. Don't confuse the issue with facts. It is a much better story if we keep it to wild speculation.
To: squirt-gun
Agreed. Heck, one of these can bring down an airliner on takeoff or landing or a helicopter under the right circumstances (not uncommon circumstances, either).
