.50-caliber sniper rifle boasts that it can bring down an airplane with a single shot
The fully automatic .50 with tracers could (theoretically)drop an aircraft with a single round, HOWEVER, anyone who believes that a currently available, single shot or semi-automatic would be useful in taking down aircraft has a seriously deficient knowledge of physics.
Just try hitting a running rabbit at - say 30 yards or so, with a .22; and the rabbit barely hits 5 or so miles an hour - 10mph tops.
Now apply that knowledge to an aircraft miles away moving at 300-450 mph.
You have better odds winning 10 different state lotteries on the same day using the same number.

The F86 Sabre that the Air Force used in the Korean war had six .50 caliber machineguns firing 1100 rounds per minute EACH. I've heard for every North Korean MiG shot down an average of 1000 rounds were fired. Now try that from the ground with a bolt action or 10 round semi auto rifle.
The gunbanners are as usual full of BS. If you can shoot down an airplane in flight with a single shot rifle, you should buy lotto tickets.

"Just try hitting a running rabbit"
There you go again. Don't confuse the issue with facts. It is a much better story if we keep it to wild speculation.

That's true. I had mucho trouble even hitting a drone flying much slower and I had twin 40 millimeters. (Heavy Cruiser.)
