Romney never appears on my FRW (Far Right Wing) radar screen so I never think of him as such. It would be a pleasant surprise, but I have to note that it is disappointing what passes as conservatism these days.

I remember a classic PJ O'Rourke piece a few years back talking about various weapons' systems which were unnecessary, but pretty cool...he said something to the effect of, "if you are going to waste the taxpayers' money, then this is the way to do it...."

The devil is always in the details and what comes out of conference may not be at what went in.

"disappointing what passes as conservatism these days"

geez, isn't that the truth?

But I also sense that there is a hunger out there...waiting for RR, part two. Have you read Craig Shirley's account of RR's 1976 campaign? Awesome and awe-inspiring. RR brought all factions of conservatism together...almost knocking off a sitting Prez in 76 and then victorious in 1980.

That is where we are today...not quite as bad, because at least we have the Reagan legacy...Reagan was sort of starting from scratch. I DO think that, a true, sincer, right-wing candidate with some personality and optimism CAN WIN but only if we work our asses off - just like Craig Shirley and everyone else did in 1976, 1980.

I don't see anyone on the horizon who has the convictions AND personality to do that. Except Pence.

Hopefully Romney and Allen will understand this and charge HARD right in the primary so that they are not outflanked by Pence. But they problem they will have is that they are waiting until the campaign to show their stones. Pence is getting some things done NOW, even from a little ole congressional seat!

At any rate..yet another non sequitur...this is going to be very hard for a congressman. And I'm all ears, but no one seems to have the optimism together with the conservatism out there (though I would add that there are a few second tier state officials out there who show promise...including Blackwell (OH), Steele (MD), Abbott (TX) and a few others I'm sure).

I think that McCain will be the Edwards of 2008.

He will lose Arizona and his chance at ever being president.

Thank God.

I don't think McCain will even come close to making it to Arizona....what a jack ass.

Pence is shaping up well.

Anyone else remember the days when The Great Ronald Reagan could "never be President"?

Does anyone know why Ron Paul was the only rep. to vote against the ADULT stem cell research bill?

It was surprisingly Ron Paul, and he's pro-life.

Maybe it's a tax thing with him. He is very, very conservative as far as I can tell.

What you wrote is perfect, Happy. I haven't read through the thread but I don't understand what the 'fight' is about.

They make claims about cures that haven't even been proven yet and insist on stem cells from embryos instead of adult stem cells. Why aren't they using the stem cells from umbilical cords? There is an endless supply of those.

BTTT

I read where even the Chinese are placing great emphasis human cloning. No joke. They are pouring great resources into it. What do they need it for?

God knows the Chinese concept of sanctity of life is defined by the Communist Party. Are we taking cues from China?

It's crazy.

Quite simple. Paul is not against Adult stem cell research, just against federal funding. Conservatives used to (but don't anymore) understand the difference. Paul is a principled opponent of smaller government. The Republicans who voted for the bill, on the other hand, apparently have no principles, at least if they claim to be against big government.

I don't know but I suspect that he is an old-time American firster who believes (at least in theory) in strong armed neutrality.....so I would suspect he'd be for a missile defense.

My son is a scientist, Chemistry and Biology, and I told him I pray that he never gets into any of these types of experimentation.
