Sadly I view them as a downgraded version of the House of Lords.

And I see them as a room full of Ted Baxters.

"Now you talk about his home state. His home state is, in fact, the newsroom of the New York Times." "That is my "I wish I had said that" line of the day."
I thought it was on FR that I saw the reference "John McCain (R - Media)"

The Democrats are all about attacking personalities, and about procedure. And that's why they lose at elections. Because when it comes to elections, elections are about ideas and policy and principle. And on that basis, the Republican party is still strong, no matter how feeble its Senate leadership is. Even off the cuff this guy is brilliant.

(Republican Senators aren't interested in serving constitutuents. Only in making deals with RATS.)

This may be "yesterday's news", but IMHO, this "spot on" analysis deserves a big *ping* for both the Steyn list and the Ohio list...I missed it yesterday, but my "better half" came across it, and it's certainly worth repeating today, especially in context of the on-going Senate activities...!

And all this business, this sub-Star Wars cliches about how the Senate has saved the Republic, that we're seeing in the newspapers today. You know, I think the Senators are just generally over-inflated, isolated people, wandering around the country with bigger courts of flunkees than your average Gulf emir has.Great. I knew McCain's "Death Star" speech would come back one day. Look out for it.
