Professional Sportscaster Wants To Be Governor

(Williamsport) -- Former professional football player and now professional sportscaster Lynn Swan wants to be the next governor of Pennsylvania and he was in Williamsport today to meet with several area government officials at Penn College.

Swan says he will bring integrity and leadership to the office. Swan noted that millions of dollars designated for bridge and highway repairs and construction has been taken away to bail out Philadelphia and Pittsburgh's mass transit systems. He says that's wrong to penalize the entire state. "I live outside of Pittsburgh. But if you become governor of Pennsylvania, you should be governor for all of Pennsylvania, not just one area."

Meanwhile, State Representative Steve Cappelli got a dig into Governor Ed Rendell and the loudest cheers when he commented that "we have a professional sportscaster who wants to be governor and we have a governor who wants to be a sportscaster." (By Kathy Thomas)

Is Mr. Swann a demo or republican (not that it matters much these days...). It's always nice to see people of color running for office as republicans.

Especially after that stunt he tried to pull on the military absentee voters during the 2004 Presidential election, i.e., the Florida 2000 shenanigans.

I will vote for Swann...assuming he is a conservative. But if my only choice is between Swann and Eddie, I pick Swann.

Sad to say but those two cities alone can easily determine the outcome of the Governors race. The end result is they will always get the bulk of the pork.

He's a 'pubbie, or at the very least has publicly been a 'pubbie supporter.

I believe Swann has said he would run as a Republican. But I have yet to hear any of his positions on, well, just about anything.

Being famous or a football player doesn't automatically qualify one for office, as the people of California are learning the hard way.

From what I understand he didn't campaign effectively, is that true? He's a hero in my neck of the woods.

How can Swann or anyone else overcome a 400,000 vote deficit coming out of Philadelphia? And that's if only 300,000 people in Philly vote!

Yippee! Gov. Swann will make a fine governor for PA and a breath of fresh air. And bring an end to the reign of fast-taxing Eddie and his back-room dealing.

Well, he'll be mighty popular in Pittsburgh, especially with the "blue-collar" crowd, so that should help offset some of the Philly fraud machine.

Don't know exactly. I was overseas. But that's the impression I got. He is working for Focus on the Family now, so he's managed to make quite a good life for himself outside of football.
