Conservatives Wary Over GOP Nominee For Finance Chairman By Jim Burns CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer January 18, 2002

(CNSNews.com) - Lewis Eisenberg's nomination as Republican Party Finance Chairman has upset many conservatives. He was to be nominated on Friday at the party's annual winter meeting in Austin, Tex.
Ralph Reed, chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, accepted the original request to nominate Eisenberg, but on Thursday he reversed the decision. He said he changed his mind after talking with Republican National Committee members and conservative leaders.
Eisenberg is a prominent New Jersey fundraiser and founder of the pro-choice Republican Leadership Council. Many pro-life Republicans think the RLC wants to purge them from the party by raising money for liberal Republican candidates.
Family Research Council President Ken Connor called Eisenberg's nomination a "slap in the face of pro-life Bush voters."
"Lew Eisenberg has made it his life's work to defeat pro-life candidates and drive the pro-life movement out of the Republican Party. It is simply mind-boggling that GOP leaders would consider for the powerful position of finance chairman someone who contributed to Walter Mondale and not Ronald Reagan," said Connor in a statement.
While Eisenberg has supported Republicans in the recent past, he also admitted he has contributed to the campaigns of Democrats Mondale, House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri; former Colorado Rep. Tim Wirth; Sen. Christopher Dodd of Conn.; former Arizona Gov. Bruce Babbitt; and Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware.
Connor predicts if Eisenberg is confirmed, it will cause a widening split between the GOP's wealthy establishment elite and the conservative rank-and-file.
"Too many of the party elite hold what they see as the 'great unwashed' in poorly concealed contempt. Mr. Eisenberg has made a career out of financing and working for candidates, including many liberal pro-abortion Democrats, who actively oppose the Republican Party's pro-life majority," Connor said.
The Washington Times reported Friday that another conservative RNC member, Michael Retzer of Mississippi, will nominate Eisenberg.
"Lew Eisenberg has an outstanding record of raising money for Republican candidates and the Republican Party," Retzer told the Times.
When asked about the flap over the Eisenberg nomination, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said "the Republican Party is more unified than it has been in a decade and that's a sign of … the great support" that people have given the president.
He said he thinks "there's no question" there are divisions within the party between pro-life and pro-abortion supporters. "But, one thing they all have in common is they support the president and that's the sign of a healthy Republican Party that welcomes different views into the party," Fleischer said.
Eisenberg, recently chaired the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and led that agency through the Sept. 11 tragedy. He was also recently appointed a member of New York's Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Authority, which will spearhead the rebuilding of ground zero.

I am going to relocate in a few months, and I will have to re-register to vote. I suspect that after registering Republican for the past 41 years, I will not choose to list any party affiliation. I am so sick of Bush on immigration and spending, Frist and the gang of seven, that I no longer want even to think about politicians.

DON'T DO THAT! If you do, THEY win.
Register and vote in the Primary for a conservative Republican. Volunteer to help with their campaigns if you can.
If a RINO gets nominated you can either:
a) stay home
b) vote third party, or, in the case of the Seven Dwarves,
c) Hold your nose and vote for a Dem, just to flush them out and then work for a conservative Repub to run next time.
If and until the Repubs implode and a Conservative Party comes along, they are the only game in town and we have to just work harder to keep it OUR party and drive THEM out.
BTW, I don't know if you noticed, but this article is quite dated. It appears to be from 2002. Definitely not 'breaking news,' y'know.

Yes. The reason I posted it was to exhibit Mr. Eisenberg's record and bring out the point that he was supporting Forrester.
The article may be dated, but the information on Eisenberg is realted to the fact that he is supporting one of the candidates for governor in the Republican gubernatorial primary in New Jersey this year.
I'm very pro-choice.

Well, I guess you stated your opinion quite clearly. Primitive, but clear.
I'll try not to use words that are too large, so I don't confuse you.
I, along with most Christian Fundamentalists, Orthodox Jews, Muslims and even quite a few atheists believe that life begins when the egg and sperm contect and produce a fertilized egg.
Follow me so far?
At that point you have a nascent - excuse me - developing human being.
When you terminate the existence of that developing human being, you are ending a human life. An innocent human life.
I can understand performing an abortion when the life of the mother is at stake - an extremely rare situation in today's medical world, to prevent the birth of a monstrous deformed individual whose chances of survival are remote and prospects of living are in a continuous state of pain.
I also understand abortion in cases of incest or rape.
Most abortions today however are matters of inconvenience because some stupid idiot failed to take appropriate steps to prevent conception - that's when the egg and sperm connect.
If individuals are engaging in certain activities best limited to married people, they should be prepared to face the possible consequences of their actions - which is a pregnancy and deal with it - without taking the innocent life produced by that action.
Please let me know if any of the words I used here are too difficult for you to understand, and I'll try to re-phrase what I just said in even simpler terms so even you can understand them.
By the way, I see from your site that you are a Second Amendment supporter. So am I.
If you check most pro-choice people you will find the majority of them oppose gun ownership. And while they have no problem killing an innocent unborn child, they go into hysterics over the U.S. fighting a war against a bunch of terrorists whose sole purpose in life is to kill as many of us as possible, and also go into hysterics over the possible execution of a mass-murderer or murdering paedophile.
So maybe you should check out the company you're keeping and re-assess - excuse me - rethink your position on this subject.
My suspicions are that Mr. Eisenberg and the people he supports may be pro-choice, but they are most probably supportive of the other opinions that generally go along with that which is why I posted that article in the first place.
