The main difference being: the Church of Jesus Christ was moved by the Holy Spirit; the religion of Islam is motivated by a far different spirit.
And history is still His Story and that is why Islam will join Communism on the ash heap of history...
...but maybe not until millions die.
My biggest fear is the anemic weakness of the western church. If we are not "filled with the Holy Spirit" as was the early church, Islam may be a viable alternative to a perverse generation (perverse connoting crooked, not straight, a generation that has lost it's way).

Interesting article, and in some ways mirrors the depressed state of mind that overcomes Americans taking a long look at the world's problems. Notice that the author left out North Korea and China. Good grief. Well, that's on a bad day. The law of averages, plus US technological superiority -- that's the thumb on the butcher's scales -- says we should come out on top.
To explain- firefox ( and some other browsers ) feature opening a new webpage in a tab on the current page, so you can go back & forth between them... rather than launching a separate browser with control-n, which is a more common way with internet explorer. It makes working on several pages or even different sites a little more convienient, that's all.
Yes, I do indeed sleep at times, despite the best efforts of wife & dog to disturb my rest.
Two nights ago, the wife-unit engaged in behaviour new to me after 20 years of marriage-- she started rolling from one side of the bed to the other- mine- so I gave up and went online early.
Last night, the bloody dog started pawing my back around midnight, and after repeated "dammit, Taffy, you just went out!" didn't settle the little beast we went out in the dead of night...
...and came back, and tried to sleep...
...and she clawed my back again, so we went out again, and came back...
...and after the third repeat of this, amid much ungentlemanly cussing, the secret was revealed...
The Dreaded White Kitty
( not to be confused with Evil Yellow Kitty, or Nasty Black Kitty, her other feline nemeses in the neighborhood )
was trying to get over her fence and infiltrate her yard!
...and so, Taffy goes what I call "Cracker Dog"-- her ears lap back, her tail stands erect and bristles like a bottle brush, and she madly charges the fence, somehow trying to climb over it while simultaneously running in circles and barking like a lunatic.
Naturally, this sets off every other dog in the neighborhood, wakes up the wife-unit, and by the time I get everything calmed down, I just mutter, "The "H" with sleeping; I'll catch a catnap ( poor choice of words... ) later today."

One's religion is a matter of personal choice but if one's faith is bound up with a justification to remove that freedom of choice from others and kill those who resist, it is no longer just a matter of personal choice. Islamism, as distinct from islam, is an infection.
Selbourne makes a lot of good points. The West is in mortal danger, and he sees it.
