Sudan wants MSF head
KHARTOUM Sudan has issued a warrant for the arrest of the country head of aid agency Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) for publishing a report on hundreds of rape cases in Darfur, the attorney-general said yesterday. We have issued a warrant for the arrest of the head of the organisation after speaking to the [governmental] Humanitarian Aid Commission, Mohamed Farid, Sudans attorney-general, said. He said it was for publishing a false report on rapes in the Darfur region in March.
MSF Holland released the report in March, saying its doctors working in Darfur had medical evidence of about 500 rape cases over a period of about 4 1/2 months in the region in the throes of a rebellion in its third year. Sudan denies there is widespread rape in Darfur. The country director of MSF Holland, Paul Foreman, said he had not yet received the warrant. Farid said they had to serve it to him personally and had not found him at the office as yet to do so, but they were waiting for him to return.
Farid said the authorities had asked MSF Holland several times for the evidence on which the report was based, but the agency had refused to provide this. Therefore, they came to the conclusion that the report was false. He added Foreman would not remain in jail but would be released on bail pending the trial. But he would not be allowed to leave the country.
If they dont give us the medical documents, we will send them to the criminal court [on the charge of] publishing a false report which harms the general peace, he said. He added the maximum penalty would be three years in jail.
Foreman said he could not violate the confidential doctor-patient relationship respected around the world by giving the authorities the medical documents. The reports and the victims of rape are both very real and we continue to do our medical work in Darfur, he said.
Tens of thousands have been killed in the fighting in Darfur and more than two million forced from their homes to makeshift camps around the region. Reports of rape are widespread in the conflict, and a UN-appointed commission of inquiry found evidence of mass rape during the conflict.
Islamic societies also kill women who have had sex out of wedlock.
Damn infidels trying to mess up "our system"
There is "general" peace in Sudan? Seems the charge could be fought on that claim alone. I wouldn't give them the documents either...those 500 women would be sure to "disappear".
Who said all of the Rape victims were women? Maybe that's what Islamic sensibilities fear?
And if the raped women were Christian, then no crime was committed. Raping a non-Muslim is considered a good deed in the eyes of Allah. After all, non-Muslim women are lower than property and are considered mere objects in Islam and deserve to be punished. Remember that that is how Muslims view our Christian wives and daughters here in the U.S..
As if we needed more proof of their idiocy.
While I'm cynical about Darfur, I also have to admit that Doctor's without Borders has mouthed off before without proper evidence. They are as libby as can be.
Mr Foreman had better be very careful.
I suspect the Sudanese want to demonstrate the activities Mr. Foreman has reported upon his posterior.
"It wasn't rape, it was intercourse without landing clearance". - Police Chief Ungawa Imbeziwawa Mogohobobugaziuto
Ok, and now ......here it comes....."The Outrage and Protests of all the MODERATE MUSLIMS "!
uh, sure is quiet.
Well, ok. They're the "good" Muslims, the "moderate" ones, my "neighbors". I better shut up so I don't alienate them.
After all...we sure don't want to lose their support.
If there was one Muslim Freeper who would speak up in this forum I would be surprised.
It serves MSF right. They have been apologists for the muslims for a number of years. Maybe this will be a good slap up-side the head for them when they wing up being forced to grovel to us for help in this matter.
MSF feels free to issue statements without evidence. Just take our word for it. They don't have that kind of credibility. Of course when the argument is "did to...did not" between MSF and Sudan there isn't much credibility on either side.
My guess is that he is now looking for safe "borders" to hide behind.
Do you mean this; Arab masters rape Sudan slave boys http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?Article_ID=28304
This is out of islamic Sudan who condones murder of Christian missionaries. The govt wants to cover up its atrocities.
That's my read on this, too. Other relief organizations will be next for various forms of not being able (willing) to fully document any accusations they make.
Salvation Army, Shepherd's purse and other missionary groups should be on the alert.
Well, if Sudan says this guy is a criminal, then he must be guilty. After all, isn't Sudan on the UN Human Rights tribunal? And everyone knows it's the US that is the main human rights abuser in the world. So, Mr. Foreman, report to jail - with your toothbrush.
