Another blow to Chirac and Schroeder (especially Chirac). He'll never be EU President now, and I'm sure that was his plan. He'll never be able to stand toe to toe with the President of the United States, ever. He's now relegated to finishing out the last two years of his final term as President of France, and who know's, maybe a federal prosecutor might be waiting for him once his presidential immunity is lfted. Scum!

I thought the "reason" French voters (as opposed to "France") voted against it was that it was "too Anglo-Saxon".

You're going to make it more so? Not that it would be a bad thing, given the average shape of former British
colonies v. former French colonies.

This kid's got a Feyenoord (Rotterdam) jersey on, so I think it's an appropriate image for the thread.

Let's see how the MSM spins this one.

Let's see if they report it. I checked a lot of sources on Monday and Tuesday this week and found almost no reports from the MSM (perticularly TV) on the French results. Clearly Katie the Perky one is not happy.

"Let's see how the MSM spins this one."

CNN/BBC official statement: Yes... it wasn't anti-American enough... it wasn't socialist enough... give us something here!!!

From the BBC:

Exit polls in the Netherlands suggest voters have firmly rejected the proposed European Union constitution in Wednesday's referendum.

The polls indicate that at least 62% of the electorate voted "No".

The BBC's William Horsley in Brussels says the ballot has probably delivered a death blow to the constitution, at least in its present form.

The treaty needs to be approved by all 25 EU member states. It was rejected by the French in a vote on Sunday.

I'd be surprised if it was even mentioned on the network morning shows.

It was a mistake to meld the currencies, just as it would've been a mistake to jam different kinds of europeans into one constitution.
They love their wars over there. What were they thinking ?

This is just great... Europe takes YEARS with the intellectuals, in peace time mind you, to come up with a constitution. Our founding fathers took a little bit over the time they did, with one exception, it was during peacetime. Why on earth would Europeans want to sign up for what they fought to the death over more than 60 years ago?
True freedom will never be relinquished.

Hey, Chirac & D'Estaing. It must really hurt to have your butt kicked with a wooden shoe.

What the BBC is reluctant to report is that as well as a higher than expected NO vote landslide... Turnout was also twice as high as expected.
