From what I understood, the major parties vowed to abide by the results if turnout was above 30% (since it isn't legally binding). 62% blows it out of the water.

Despite the excuses the media keep making about the reasons for the No votes (ie "too anglo-saxon", "doesn't defend pensions programs") these 2 votes have been for reasons far broader than any in the EU's history.
It is not merely 1 or 2 sentences of text that they are voting against (as was the case in past EU treaty No votes), it is in fact the very idea of a Federal Europe with common policies that they have rejected. National populations overwhelmingly want to get out of the Euro currency as well. BBC reported today a poll showing that 56% of Germans want to go back to the Deutschemark.

It's not the EU's choice! Overwhelming majority of Germans want to go back to the Deutschemark and probably far more Dutch want to go back to the Guilder. I wouldn't be surprised if France wanted to go back to the Franc as well.
